I think braids might be to tight for day 1 of school. Twisties look better more relax look.
I would say clean cut ends, no split ends. All split ends cut-off.
Clean fresh hair for school, everday.

i have individual braids, but i like kinky twist for people with short hair, and seneceleds for longer thiner hair, so i would go with long seneceledes, and make sure they make em as long as posible, cuz that is really cute, i hate short ones.. and remember at a shop it will cost aboout 185$, braides are 170$....you probably will have to bring your own hair, it will cost less that way

This probably won't help you on the issue at all, but this poster that my two favorite teachers had in their room just popped into my mind. "Twenty years from now it won't matter what clothes you wore, how your hair was done, or how opular you were." or something to that effect, I can't remember it exactly.
