I've tried this on two family trees. It's when I show an ascendent chart.

You don't mention which software you're using, but the LDS software allows you to pick anyone from your index as a person's parent. So instead of typing in the common grandparent twice, you pick that person from your index twice. Or, if you're working from the grandparent forward, you enter in the 2 lines from children to grandchildren, then enter the marriage of one by picking the second person as the spouse. Then you're still only showing the common grandparents once.

The tree looks funny that way, hey. It is common in the old days that cousins would marry - strange but true.

I assume you are using Family Tree Maker. You sort of have to force the grandparents to be the same with a merge.

There should be a command for such a function somewhere on one of your menus. I have "Family Ties" and I remember setting the program to not show a duplicate ancestor, but to instead refer to the other line. I have a couple of instances of such marriages in my ancestry. I don't know about other software, but mine is at least 5 years old, and newer software should be better than mine...

Did you try a merge? I had that problem too. I'm using Family Tree Maker and under "people" there is a pace to merge individuals.

In the old days first cousins did marry each other. Now it is against the law in most states.
