A simple way to keep cats away is spray vinegar around the outside of your property. They hate the smell and will not go near it. Unfortunately, it washes away easily. Something better to do is call a shelter or take them yourself. Then, they can find a good home instead of roaming the street. :)

The most humane thing you can do is to call the SPCA or a NO KILL animal shelter to pick the animals up. DO NOT call the pound or animal control, they will put the cat to sleep within 3 days (I know from experience). Whatever you do, please do not harm this creature in any way. There are many strays wondering around due to irresponsible owners and because of the animal over-population. These poor animals don't have an owner and no where to go so they show up in people's yards hoping to find a place to call home. Please have mercy on them because they don't know they are "trespassing." Give them a chance to have a loving home and contact a NO KILL animal shelter to pick them up.

soak some sponges in vinegar and place around where the cats are going. They dislike the smell of vinegar. It may take a bit and you will have to refresh the sponges ...probably daily due to the heat wave. You can also soak rags in the vinegar and tie them to things.
And, as somebody already said...make sure no one is feeding them and also remove any debris pile or hidey hole they might like chilling in.

You can call animal control, a vet's office, the SPCA, don't feed it, chase it off, remove all food products from around your lawn and cover the garbage and compost bins tightly. There isn't much you can do but the best idea would be to call people who know what they are dealing with i.e animal control. YOu could probably turn the hose on it put that would be mean,

Cats are naturally repelled by the smell of citrus. You could spray the outside of your home with orange or lemon oil. It is safe and environmentally friendly.
