It is to do with the attitude of the people around them.. If you live and grow up amongst people who automatically assume you are a criminal if you are young and with your mates, won't sit next to you on buses or employ you, make all sorts of (usually negative) assumptions about you based on the colour of your skin it is bound to get you down.
Also, if you have been brought up in a black culture amongst a white culture, there can be poor understanding of subtle behavioural indicators when treated or assessed by white medical staff. So sometimes it is not the case that the person is mentally ill, but someone has decided on that diagnosis based on unconscious preconceptions.
It is no accident that white Irish people living in the UK (as opposed to Northern Ireland or Eire) have more mental problems than do any other group except black people and it is because of all this negative stereotyping.
As for the idea of genetic predisposition to mental illness - that is pure nonsense and the newspaper involved should be ashamed of itself.

It seems that you have no reason to be concerned, as you seem to have already "flipped" into ignorance and racism.
There is always more to the story than is shown on TV or in newspapers. Consider the particular bias or angle that is being presented, and why.
The single program or article cannot be expected to provide the viewer with thinking skills or the mental training and education to make you able to fully understand what you have seen as well as what you have not seen.
Perhaps you/we all would benefit from turning off the TV, putting down the tabloid, and beginning to read serious books.

Well lets see the serial killers over the past 50 years are mostly white if you check up. There can be genetic predispositions to menal illness and socio-economic reasons for this also at least for depression. As to the question of different brain development did you get this info. from an Arian Nations website or a reliable source and has it been confirmed by other reasearch or is it a theory at present.

Why do you say blackies?
Funny I was watching a documentary that said whites had more mental illness.Black illness is never in the open because of money, usually drugs and they never get treated and gets worse thats why it seems to be more, whites have the resources so they get treated.I'm worried that I work around whites that could just "flip" and go "Postal" and shoot up the place, doesn't that soind as stupid as what you just said?

It's quite likely that black people in the UK have a higher incidence of mental illness considering the way they are treated by racist elements among the white population. When the Angles and Saxons started coming over here 1600 years ago, I expect a few of them had issues too.

Some of these statements on this blog is very untrue.. I did a study on mental illness on young adult whites and blacks.. The results came back as most Whites had more rate of depression and willing to commit suicide than blacks. However due to lack of economics and financial status, most blacks have more stage of depression than white when it comes to that field of economics. But most whites will commit suicide than blacks. When it comes to depression, Black's answer to depression is not suicide but the answer is drugs and alcohol..

This is the most untrue thing I've ever heard. That's like me asking "why are so many whities anorexic?" It's very offensive... I'm basing it on something I've seen on t.v., and it may very well be untrue. Mental health has nothing to do with a person's race or ethnicity.

It is a proven fact that the majority of people, not just blacks, suffer from at least one or more symptoms of mental illness in a lifetime. This does not mean that we all suffer from full blown psychosis. Mental illness comes in many forms. The most common, most unfortunate, and most curable form of mental illness is called RACISM! How do YOU feel?

Don't be so damn judgemental. It does not matter whether you are white, black or pink with poker spots all over you.
Do you think people with mental illnesses want it?
I am telling you that don't. Nor can they help their behavior at times. I should know, I suffer with Bipolar and quite frankly I am sick and tired of the stigma of negative people that know nothing about it.
