I'm tired of people answering financial aid questions with such cold answers. I'm talking about those people that have nothing else to say but "get a job".
The problem that I have with this is that you are not expected to work full time through school. The reason you are in school is to concentrate on your education, not how hard to work in order to pay for it. This is why there is financial, and if anything else student loans. But I"m so tired of people telling people "suck it up and find a job," it's cruel, cold, and ignorant! So next time you give advice to college students who are trying to find ways to pay for college, don't tell them to work through school. No one cares if you didn't know how to apply for financial aid and ended up having to work 40 hours a week while going to school. It's not expected of any stupid, so stop being so damn ignorant!
Anyone else agree?

working part time while in school builds character, but working until you're exhausted just makes for bad grades.

It IS pretty cold in here, some of these people are unbelievable. Students are in school to learn, and to learn you need time to study and go to classes. Working an on campus job part time is good, it gives you involvement with the community and builds up your networking skills. But the most one should be working in college during classes is 15-20 hours a week at MOST. You're in school to get an education, not to exhaust yourself. People need to worry about working their butts off after college, when they find that career they have been wanting all their lives. Once you're there, paying off student loans shouldn't be any problem at all. That's why when I answer financial aid questions, you will never hear me tell someone to just "get a job." Your job while in school is to study hard and get good grades. Working hard can be for the summer. I wish this world weren't so cold...

Maybe if you worked for an education you would appreciate it more. Look at the drop out rate.
My parents did not give me a penny toward my education. I saved and paid for a while, then I joined the army and used the GI Bill. And while I was in school, I worked so I had enough money to live on.
No one, and I repeat, NO ONE owes you anything, that includes an education or anything else. So stop the whining, get a job.
BTW - I was able to save 1/2 the money my son needed to go to college. Instead he joined the Navy, he said he was not ready for college and would just be wasting my money.
If you cared that much about college, I would think you would have done really well in High school and received a whole bunch of scholarships

I definitely agree! I'm in college now but I dropped out the first time around because I couldn't get aid and I was working 35hrs a week over 5 days, going to school full time 4 days a week and I was only able to save a fraction of what I needed for the following semester! I go fed up and frustrated because the workload is what it is whether you have a job or not you're expected to keep up with it and I was getting D's and other low grades that weren't a reflection of my ability but of my lack of time and the stress I was under.
Working full-time or not makes a world of difference. I went back to school last year and didn't work and I was able to take alot of credits and still aced because school was my focus not part of my juggling act.

My daughter will start college in January and I still have no idea how I will pay for it. One of the things will be her working though - part time of course, but she has to work.
She has been working all summer too and saving all the money to go to college costs.
Hopefully we can put together enough different things to cover the costs.

I work full time and go to school part time..
its just life and how money goes, sorry to shove the truth in your face...
but that is just how it is...if I can suck it up and do it at the age of 29, with a husband and child...anyone can...
breaks in life are never free..

That's just so hard for you.
There are people saying "Get well," when somebody just told they suffer from terminal cancer.
Your problem is just money.
