I have a substantial amount of dental work that is needed. It could be quite expensive. I have insurance but it doesn't cover too much.

My question is -- does anyone know of a place where dental work can be done very inexpensively? I'm thinking of a dental school or someplace like that where the students can do the work for far less under supervised conditions.

Does anyone know of anything like that? Are there any other options to get a substantial amount of work done as inexpensively as possible?

Yeah, dental school is good. A friend fo mine had dental issues while she was on vacation in Mexico and got amazing work done at rock-bottom prices, so if you're near there...

Another way to get a lot done for a low price is to bypass the insurance and make a cash deal with your dentist. My parents did this when we were kids and they got some amazing discounts because the dentist didn't have to bill or do a payment schedule. Some things were less than half the ordinary rate this way.

Are you confident that all the work is necessary?

Has this dentist given you the best solution to each problem? There is often more than one way to fix a tooth, (eg crown+bridge or implant; root canal or extraction).

Ask for the list of work to be put in order of priority. Fillings probably come first as they are to stop decay. An abcess/root infection must be dealt with straight away but other work could be far less urgent.

Sometimes when you go to a new dentist, they frighten you with a big list of work which really could be done over five years. And in my case, some of it not at all!

Do you have a university nearby with a dental school? This is a great place to get dental work done. I know the Ohio State University does it. Also, sometimes local health clinics can do dental work for less based on your income.

I would like to recommend Thailand which offer a very competitive price for dental treatment with high standard as you may see in CBS TV'60 minutes and in Time magazine. Many Thai dentists are graduated and well-trained in USA and many of them are American Board in theire related field. Hospital and clinic are world class standard. The estimate price for dental work are such as ceramic filling USD 15 - USD 40, Crown, Bridge USD 260 - USD 460, Denture USD 205 - USD 510, Root Canal Treatment USD 105 - USD 310 depends on the case. Hotel rate starts from USD 20. Thailand has many International hotel chain range from 3-5 stars. The airfare if you stay in USA, we can recommend the travel agency that sales very competitive of airfare such Houston(Texas)-Bangkok-Houston is at USD 1035 (Sep 06) by American Airline. I had about 13 cavities in my teeth, and two root canals that needed to be done as well as two crowns. I have done one root canal already and have 4 cavities left in my mouth including one root canal and two crowns. Unfortunately my insurance ran out also. My annual maximum was $1,500 and I ran out in about 2 months so I did all of the important stuff that cannot wait till January ( that is when I get my new annual maximum). If I were you I would not go to a dental school to get it done, obviously it is cheaper but you get what you pay for. Just like when you go get a cheap haircut and it turns out horrible. Speak to your dentist - ask him or her what they think needs to be done most urgently and get that stuff done first. He will be able to tell you what can wait if you run out of insurance. Also a lot of dentists can work with you on a payment plan. Don't mess with your teeth - they are important. You don't want to neglect them and then end up getting dentures

So much depends on the type of problems your having, is it simply a number of cavities that need fillings? More extensive crown and bridge work? Root canals? Periodontal problems? Have you used your insurance and gone to a dentist to get a check up and talk about what needs to be done and in what order? Maybe your at the place where its simply a matter of getting them all extracted and going to dentures?

Check out your local University that has a dental program. They take patients and it is low cost. Don't worry, there are qualified people there with the dental students.

Cosmetic and dental Surgery is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges cosmetic surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.

I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your cosmetic surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

my cousin got a couple of cosmetic and dental surgery procedures in India through the forerunners healthcare.she is more than very happy with the results.she just paid 30% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.i personally have seen the wondeful results and am particularly impressed with the kind of quality care she got from this company.

Dental school, or call around to different dentists and ask if they offer financing or some may allow you to pay the bill over time w/o added interest.
