I've noticed a bit of a difference in beliefs among Christians. On one hand - Jesus died for your sins so that you may repent and be forgiven. On the other - Jesus died for your sins, so you will be forgiven no matter what. Can anyone explain this difference, how it developed, and/or which sects believe which?

Or am I just misunderstanding? I'm especially interested in hearing how that works out for sinners in the end.

Only God forgives, and only if you truly understand what you did wrong. That is a misconstrued belief, and point of contention amoung very good people. The next thing the zelots say is if you don't believe that Jesus is your Savior, you cannot go to heaven. Wow, what a sales point for thier religion. Bunk.

Good people are good people, and whatever heaven is, is theirs at Gods will and judgement. Not some human, saying you can't get there from here.

If you sin, you cannot keep sinning, thinking Jesus takes care of it for you. You need to "Sin no more".

First off, the atonement is something so huge, I don't know if there's anyone that fully understands it (except God of course).

But yes, there do seem to be those differences. I'm LDS, and I've always learned that the Atonement is what makes it possible for me to repent, and that after all I can do (lets face it, I'm not going to be perfect by the time I die, but I should try to get as close as I can, but it's not going to be enough) - as I was saying, after all I can do, the atonement can apply the mercy needed to satisfy justice.

It's my opinion that we will be judged on who we have become, and repentance, I've found, really is the process through which I can become something better than I am.

Best wishes!

Within the Christian faith the answer to the question is:
How many sins had you committed when Jesus died for them?
Answer: None.

So..... if you accept the idea that youre sinful and you accept the sacrifice provided - all your sins (even the ones you havent done yet) are forgiven.

The only thing that is needed for you to go to heaven is to believe in your heart that Jesus died for your sins, conquered death, then rose again in victory over death. Because it is death that is the wages of sin. It had to be dealt with once and for all by a sacrifice that was without blemish. At that point in your life a relationship begins. You communicate to him in prayer and he communicates to you through your soul and his living word and through that relationship he will help you through life. John 3:16 states it perfectly.

Jesus died for all men and that act is representative of the grace of God. However, we have to believe. Part of believing is obeying Jesus' commandments. If Jesus says to do something no matter how it sounds to us, then we do it if we want to follow Him. The Bible teaches that if you don't believe in Jesus, you will die in your sins (John 8:24). Jesus also said, "Not everyone who says unto Me 'Lord, Lord' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father will enter in" (Matthew 7:21). Something to think about...

Jesus died so that we wouldn't have to make animal sacrifice for our atonement anymore. His death covered all sin for all time, but we have to atone by repentance, water baptism and sanctification which are all analogies of the old steps of atonement taken by the high priests in the OT. it's so easy for us today, yet we still choose to NOT accept it that it's mind-boggling sometimes, but that's just me.

You must repent. That means to admit to Jesus and acknowledge that you are a sinner and want to be renewed and restored. You must also acknowledge that Jesus died for you and that you believe in Him.

God does not judge you for living your life and learning from your experiences. This is why we are put here, to learn from the situations that we are confronted with. God does not judge us for doing what is expected of us. God loves us just as much when we are making mistakes because He know that eventually these mistakes will lead us to the truth.

Love and blessings
