I mean, I understand splitters are sold legally but with regards to your cable company, is it unlawful to split a signal by doing it yourself and not having them know. Also, can anyone tell me how to do it myself or direct me in the right direction. There are so many websites but usually I find any instruction has to do with digital cable modems and no specific instruction on how to connect with a digital cable box as well as how to cut the cable, etc.

Dont cut the cable. Unscrew the incoming cable from the back of the digital cable box, and screw that end into the splitter. Buy a smaller cable to reconnect one side of the splitter to the digital cable box, and run the other end to a different TV. There is nothing illegal about this.

If the spliter is sold legally, what is your issue? That's an issue that should be taken up with the cable companies and the manufactures of splitter. If it makes you feel better...call the cable company and say" charge me for another Television set that I'm using....
With respect to directions ...why don't you ask the person that sold you the splitter how it goes on????

Yes, but you aren't going to have a digital box on that other TV, so you'll only be getting regular stations on your TV. If you are fine with that, that's okay.

Cable companies don't charge by the number of "outlets" anymore. Almost like a phone company doesn't charge by the number of jacks.

Cuttin the cable is not allowed. Your agreement with them may say they own that cable. Good recomendations above. If your going to watch the same shows at the same time just on more thatn one television there certainly nothing illegal about it.

It is illegal and if you cut the cable wrong they will have to come and fix it. If they have to come for a repair and find you have done this yourself they will fine you and maybe prosecute.
