My being Hindu :-
1.I don't celebrate Christmas -
2.Don't celebrate birthdays .......
a. Everyday is deemed special and family, friends & associates are afforded that special love, care & attention all the time.
b. Birthdays are a feast for those who DO NOT need anything.
We therefore feed and clothe the orphans/destitute - the sense of fullfillment is immeasurable

I do not celebrate my birthday but other people do, we meet up and have an evening or afternoon of fun no presents as such just silly things.
Christmas I celebrate in my heart still a child in that respect I love the thought of Father Christmas or what ever name he is given in different cultures.
Presents for the children yes but the adults again a token gift.
As you mentioned I give gifts on spec as well, you do not need a reason.

I never used to celebrate either, until a few years ago. Religious reasons. I didn't mind Christmas so much but it really hurt me that I couldn't celebrate the birth of my child. I changed my beliefs a few years ago and now I enjoy both. I love fitting in with the rest of society, I love the season, I love buying presents and the whole razzmatazz of the thing. I love the idea behind it all and although I accept that it probably is pagan, I don't care! It's a reason to be with my family and express my devotion to them. If iChristmas is the one day of the year in which we are all together, that's wonderful!

The days I celebrate are: My Birthday, Easter, Christmas, New year's Eve and Day and the birthdays of members of my family.
I do not celebrate because I am 'Forced to' - I celebrate because I find it fun and a great time for the family to get together and spend time with one another.
Of course, people tend to exaggerate on the material side of celebrations but items of worth to other people mean nothing to me.
I simply enjoy spending time with ones I love.
xx

i celebrate other people's birthdays and christmas when i fell obliged to, mainly family becuase they would feel bad if i didn't. i don't celebrate mine because i just don't care, and i don't think i ever really got a gift that i was just blown out of the water by.
most of my close frineds are like this they could care less bout their birthday or christmas, but they usually celebrate it for other people's enjoyment.
i like halloween, though and i like new years, birthdays and christmas are really for children under 10 yrs old and parents of children under 10.

We give gifts to folks under the age of 12. They are children.
But, we gift our friends and relatives, with things that they need, all the time, without regard to the Pagan gods' Holidays that the Roman Empire dictated, in 380 AD, when they kicked out all the Pagan gods!
All of that is MIND CONTROL, to sell more stuff! And, to get more MONEY, even for the folks with the bells on the sidewalks!
WE give ALL YEAR!
And, I give you all my blessings, my heartfelt hopes that your day is a GREAT one!
Now, doesn't that feel good to you? And, it is joyful, on this end, too!

I dont celebrate anything. I feel my b/day is for my mum to celebrate the day she brought me out of her tummy. I choose to work christmases coz its a waste of money. However, for those who value their birthdays and xmas I respect them and give gifts.

all holidays with the exception of your b-day are all man made holidays to get you to spend money on foney decerations and gifts for people you feel obligated to buy for.......... I am with you, I buy for people when i want to and when I find something I think they might like.......... not because of a man made holiday which I think is just to get people to spend money they don't have anyway. I do like Thanksgiving........ even though it is a man made holiday, it really has a history that gives it meaning and truth, and there are no presents involved, just alot of food and the whole family, some family members I haven't seen in long whiles......... Blessed Be.........
