I am a muslim girl and I have noticed how many non muslims pity muslim women, why though I dont understand, our lives are completely normall, we live how we want and happily.

I am a Muslim Woman
Feel free to ask me why
When I walk, I walk with dignity
When I speak, I do not lie
I am a Muslim Woman,
Not all of me you'll see
But what you should appreciate
Is that the choice I make is free
I'm not plagued with depression
I'm neither cheated nor abused
I don't envy other women
And I'm certainly not confused
Note, I speak perfect English
Et un petit peu de francais aussie
I'm majoring in Linguistics
So you need not speak slowly
I own my own small business
Every cent I earn is mine
I drive my Chevy to school and work
And no, that's not a crime
You often stare as I walk by
You don't understand my veil
But peace and power I have found
For I am equal to any male
I am a Muslim Woman
So please don't pity me
For God has guided me to truth

I am a muslim women and I am educated, I have not finished my education yet I am still in school but I am very much educated and one of the top students in my year!

Someone said muslim women never share closeness with their partner, my parents have been married for about 19 years and they are very much in love, my mum is not stopped from doing anything by my dad she works and the two of us go out and about on our own too and I can say pretty much the same for the other muslims I know too!

And finally please don't get culture mixed with religon the two are very different things!!

Yes, some of them do and its basically because of the following reasons: -

1. As part of over all Islam bashing.

2. They are women explioters and think that a woman is only free if she can walk naked on beaches - as it satisfies their lustful eyes. They do not understand the dignity of women and just treat them as a source of pleasure.

I always feel sorry for their double standards, because when they talk about freedom of women, they only criticise their veils vis-a-vis their revealing the bodies. When it comes to sharing equal rights, so many women in these so called "free women societies" are deprived of top positions, and are made to undergo racism. How many women have become Presidents in US, How many are made Prime Ministers, Chief Justice, etc. On the otherhand if we see the so called "orthodox" Muslim countries, we find women on top positions like in BanglaDesh, Pakistan, Egypt, Lybiah etc.

Double standards, huh!!

Of course. I'm glad that you like being a Muslim woman. You failed to mention whether you have always been a Muslim, or if you converted to the religion.
If you have ever walked on the beach in a modern bathing suit feeling the ocean breezes on your body, and having your hair blow in the wind, you would know the difference.
The farm horse that worked hard since he was born doesn't know that he has a hard life. To him that's the way it is.
To compare two lifestyles intelligently, you must try both. I know you'll say that non-Muslim women have never tried the Muslim way. In clothing, they have. During cold weather non-Muslim women cover their entire bodies, including their heads and hair. In warm weather they are free to enjoy the fresh air and breezes.
Many Muslim women share their husbands with a half dozen other women. They will never feel the closeness of two people sharing their lives, and living only for each other.
You say that you drive a Chevy, great but many Muslim women are forbidden from driving.
Many Muslim women can't leave the house unless they're chaperoned by a male relative. Muslim men feel they can't trust their women.
Like the farm animals, Muslim women don't know how bad their life is because it's the only life they've ever experienced.
I know that you didn't ask for it, but even so I do feel very sorry for you.

I dont know why some people feel pity for women who follow the path of Islam; I know that I dont, nor shall I. I am not Muslim, in fact I was baptized Catholic, but I have many Muslim friends. You are not the only person who wears a veil, ignorance is also a mask that many people wear. Mankind has a problem with fearing what they dont understand and that which is different, you fall into that category for many people. It sucks, but thats just the way it is. Im in that same category because I am Native American and many people just dont understand what that means, but dont worry about it because you know who and what you are and thats all that really matters.

"For I am equal to any male"

From the website http://frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=5676

Aside from physical evidence, the only way to establish rape is by the testimony of four male witnesses (who, by the way, must be Muslims in good standing) who actually saw the act itself. Without these witnesses and a confession from the accused rapist, the victim will stand condemned by her very accusation: she wasn’t raped, so she must be guilty of zina.>

And from http://www.buzzle.com/editorials/5-12-2002-18226.asp

Medical tests were ordered, witnesses questioned and a trial was held. Defence lawyers were called in. But Pakistan's archaic legal system, a mix of secular and Islamic codes, offers little protection for women.

Bibi, 28, was convicted of adultery under Islamic laws which many regard as deeply prejudicial. Last month, a year after she reported the rape, a judge sentenced her to death by stoning. Under the Offence of Zina Ordinance, which covers both rape and adultery under the Islamic code, a conviction requires either a confession from the accused or evidence from four witnesses to the crime who are Muslim men who 'abstain from major sins'. Frequently, when rape is not proven, women are charged with adultery. As a result, most rapes are never reported, even though the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan estimates that every two hours a woman in the country is raped.

In Bibi's case, the judge ruled the fact that she changed her statement to name a new attacker was a confession of adultery.

'She made herself guilty in that statement when she clearly admits she had committed zina [adultery] with her brother-in-law,' said Kurshid Anwar, a prosecutor in the case. 'There was no mark of violence on her body. It was the right decision as long as the law exists.' Later Anwar admitted he favoured 'modernisation' of the law. 'Women suffer more because of our customs,' he said.>

Its mostly because of ignorance. When non-muslims see muslim women waering parda, leading a secluded life and wearing a head scarf, they think that muslim women are forced to waer it and lead a very secluded life. What they dont realise is that women are free to waer or not to wear a head scarf or whatever. Plus, when non muslims hear that women in the Arab countiries are not allowed to do things as freely as men, they begin to pity women.

sure as long as you dont think or act independently of your male relative or husband.

This is the 21st century, not the 7th. Women are equal with men in all things. islam still has and justifies so called honor killings. A muslim woman can be raped and then killed by her family for dishonoring them

yeah nice religion

i agree that your sexually repressed that you chose that doesnt say much for your looks, but i will say that its wonderful that its your choice. many muslim girls do not get that choice and yes they are abused in every sense of the word abuse. its sad i was in saudi arabia the mecca of muslim and its absolutly intolerant how women are less then animals.
