You may want to talk to your doctor about weight loss options and possibly even a referral to a nutritionist before you listen to all of us on here!
This was easy for me - I could still eat what I wanted, just less of it, and I lost weight at a slow, healthy rate. Once it started coming off, I was addicted to the "diet." I lost 1 pound a week when I was not exercising, and almost 2 per week when I was. AND i felt great, no more heartburn, etc.
I just counted carbs. 45 carbs per meal, two 15 carb snacks throughout the day. Most foods have the carb counts on their label information. A good book for "counting" things is The Doctor's Pocket Calorie, Fat & Carb Counter. It is around $6. and it also has counts for fresh foods (corn and beans, etc.) and fast food places as well as many chain restaurants. Believe it or not, you can eat some things out that you think you can't and some things that restaurants advertise as "healthy eating" really aren't.
I know it sounds really basic, but this was easy for me. When I had to plan specific meals for the week, count too many things, etc., it was just too daunting and I didn't do it. But it really works if you stick to it, and it is just basic good, healthy eating. Good luck!!
PS: I also wrote everything down. This helped me really keep track of what I was eating. Before I ate something, I thought, "Do I really want to record this in my food journal?" It kept me honest. :)

Forget diet plans and go for a total lifestyle change.
Avoid white bread, refined sugars, soda, regular pasta and all the other junk you know is bad.
Include water, whole grains, fruits and veggies and eat small (fist size) healthy meals/snacks every 2-3 hours. You need to start an exercise program as well but you should check with your Dr.
first. Walking as much as you can is probably a good bet.
Little things add up too! Instead of parking close to the store, park farther away and walk. Take the stairs rather then the escalator or elevator.

eat six mini-meals. that keeps your metabolism stable in burning calories. dont eat too much bread or drink soda. Beware of High Fructose Corn Syrup and anything with Partially Hydrogenated Oil. Not good. That is not a diet per se, but it should be a way of life.

Hi, First there are no diet plans that will work if you look at them as "diets". You should look at loosing weight at a new way of eating. Slowly cut back on the size of your servings and try to eat healthier things. You don't have to stop eating all the things you love, Just eat smaller portions. Don't try to loose too much weight too quickly because you will find it'll come right back. Once you find a standard desired meal cut back, stick with it and you will find the weight starting to slowly come off and stay off. Good Luck loosing, Oh and have fun.

Track your calorie intake. You need to workout and burn more than you take in. There are many "diets" out there, but you are better of with something that does not exlude groups of food, like the Adkins. Those types of diets are not healthy for you. Tracking what you eat will reveal alot, and keep a log also of your exercise and activities.

To lose weight and keep it off you need to make a diet and exercise plan of your own. You won't stick to someone else's plan. There are a few hard and fast rules however. NO FAST FOOD ever. Keep processed food to a minimum, such as ready to eat dinners, frozen foods, etc. NO FRIED FOOD. Little or no meat. If you must, stick to baked chicken, etc. Fish is preferable. Very little dairy such as cheese, cottage cheeses and yogurt. Very fattening! If you must have dairy drink 1-2% milk, but not much. LOTS of fresh vegetables steamed or sauteed in olive oil. FRESH fruit. Whole grains such as oatmeal but very little bread at all. No desserts but maybe once a week a candy bar is OK. Soy products such as soy milk, Boca burgers, etc once in a while.
Exercise briskly 5 days a week for 1 hour. Something to raise the heart rate. Walking is good. Swimming better.
Fashion your new lifestyle to suit your likes and dislikes. otherwise you will go on the new 'plan' for a while and then you'll quit and gain the weight back.

If you can stand it, the Atkins diet is the only one where you aren't hungry all the time and you lose lots of weight fairly quickly. If you can't do it, try the Zone Diet, and the Mediterranean Diet is good, too.

best way to lose weight is to eat less (but don't starve yourself) or/and to slowly increase your activity level. start by walking or swimming then advance to jogging and running. when you feel that you are ready you should try to build some muscle mass. even though muscles weigh more than fat they burn more calories when they are used.
most ppl say to log your progress so you can see if you are getting anywhere. good luck - losing weight takes discipline and dedication.
