Actually, no, it's the fruit itself. The sugar in the fruit is used by your body immediately, it is then digested quickly.

Eating any food that is high in sugar or carbohydrate should be consumed with protein. Protein can take up to 4 hours longer to be digested than fruit.

So, it's not vitamin C (ascorbic acid).
