I've heard of some people using some horrifying methods of putting their dogs down...the sheffield's box and some sort of chamber thing. I'm having a hard time believing these methods are true, but I couldn't find any information online to discredit it. Could someone tell me if these really are existing ways to put animals down, or is it a hoax of some kind?

I would never consider any of these methods. My question is whether these methods are really being used, or they are hoaxes?

Supposedly, the box is a way of snapping your dogs spine in three places. The chamber is a thing that crushes the dog. I can't find any information on either online, so I kind of think they're just hoaxes.

Horrible things ARE done to kill animals, by horrible people, some people would rather be cruel than pay the cost of an injection. The stories you've heard are probably not hoaxes.

If any animal needs to be euthanased, it really must be done, gently and painlessly, by injection, by a vet.

I had to have a beloved cat "put down", as she had inoperable cancer, and I just held her in my arms while she was given a injection, she just drifted off to sleep and was dead within a few seconds....... the only pain suffered was mine.......

All over the world there are people who treat animals very badly which means they kill them with the most horrible methods. By us there was a dog who someone had hung by the neck with a piece of rope from a traffic sign. There are a lot of sick people out there! http://www.all-creatures.org/anex/dog.html just a start to see some real cuelty out there...

These are used and they are horrible. People have charged with cruelty to animals and sentenced to jail time for using these methods.

I live where there are still several rural counties that do NOT humanely euthanize animals. There is one about 50 mile north that still uses the chamber to suck the air out and suffocate them. Several counties to East that still uses gunshots.

Please check with your local shelter on their practices and if you find they are not doing it by HSUS and ASPCA standards please report them and be sure to follow through. Get a community action going please.

Yep, take him out back and put a round in him. He'll thank you for it when he wakes up.
