To show everyone she is the boss. Stop her straight away or she will believe she is the boss.

humping is not sexual - it's a sign of dominance. Your dog is trying to be an alpha dog and show dormancy over what ever she is trying to hump. Let the cat bite or scratch her a few times, and she will leave it alone. You need to assert yourself as the alpha pack leader and that should help

She is in heat. Just because she has been speyed does not mean she doesn't want to have sex. Picture a woman having her tubes tied, just because her tubes are tied that means she doesn't want to have sex. I think not! It is normal once the feelings stop she will stop humping and go back to normal.

humping is not always sexual...it is a dominance thing. A humping dog is trying to show it is dominate.

Humping is totally normal dog behavior. It isn't about sex, but about social roles and play and sometimes dominance.
Dogs that were removed from their littermates and mother too early often display "inappropirate" humping--ie humping other things aside from dogs. But it isn't about sex.

spaying doesn't stop the urge to hump. its a domination thing. she is trying to dominate the cat or her toy, or whatever she is humping. all my dogs are spayed or neutered and they hump all the time.

My dog (a spayed b!tch) only does that (to her fleece blanket) when my sister-in-law comes to stay. My dog book says to remove the object of their affections from their presence which seemed to work, but I guess it isn't that easy if it is a piece of furniture or your cat.

it could be dominance or she may have a hormone imbalance for some reason (not all hormones are controlled by the uterous) - too many male hormones perhaps

or it can be food related (avoid SOY)

sometimes they do what is instinctive and dont know why.. you will often see female cows trying to breed each other too

It may be because she's experimenting! All animals do this when they are feeling a little horny! It might be that she is working out her sexuality in much the same way as we humans do or it could be a vie for attention:ie.e a behavioural problem.

Female dogs don't hump.

Either she is a he, she is a haemephrodite or shes suffering from a lot of testosterone and its making her act male.

Take her to the vet to be checked out. (even though she was spayed, its possible to not see retained testes during surgery)

Expose her to a female dog in heat and see what she does. Expose her to a male dog humping everything and see what happens.
