No. The only sin is the aggressor's. However, if you ever must commit justifiable homicide, and feel sinful, confess it to God because God can forgive any sin.

I wouldnt nessescarily say it was a sin, but self defence or not, its still wrong, in this day and age we dont need to be doing that, we have law enforcement officers that are trained well enough to do those kinds of things for us, if it is an accident, then well its nothing more than that - an accident.

I think it depends on your intent. What the law may say is self-defense might not be self-defense in your heart. If you take self-defense as a chance to kill someone you'd otherwise like dead, there's probably a problem. Though the military is incredibly bad at this, international law says they are supposed to minimize casualties. If you're concerned about morality, you should probably take this stance. Let's take a moment and reflect on your question though, how often are people in situations where they need to defend their life? If you feel like this is a situation you are in a lot you should probably stop hanging out wherever it is you hang out.

No, because the idea of sin is not real.

Killing anyone except by accident is all the same, no matter how cleverly you try to justify it. Self defense is still premeditated. It is just seen as justified by consensus reality because the preservation of the self is seen as more important than the lives of others.

This works till you actually look at it logically, then the whole concept falls apart. One life is never more valuable than another.

NO, it is not. God looks at what the intentions of the heart are. Example- if someone breaks into your home and a struggle ensues while you are trying to protect your family and it comes down to you are the invader-
if the person is killed, I don't think this is considered a sin.
By the way, thou shall not kill in the Old Testament should actually be translated "thou shall not murder. There is a difference between killing and murder.

Sin is an outdated concept. Instead of relying on what some yahoos thought about it 2000 years ago, try thinking for yourself.

You have a brain. Use it. I'm sure you can figure out for yourself how killing affects you and others in society and how there might be situations where it is warranted or even appropriate. You don't need a religion to figure this out.

In the Vedic Literature..it is said that, 6 kinds of Aggressors Should be immediately Killed and there will be no sins ...

1. One who attacks all of a sudden with deadly weapon
2. One who sets fire in one’s house
3. One who administers poison
4. One who kidnaps or entices one’s wife,
5. One who take away by force one’s wealth,
6. One who plunders wealth,

it is also stated to the extent that
“‘An aggressor intent on killing, may be a very learned scholar of Vedanta(or Priest), yet he should be killed because of his envy in killing others. In such a case, it is not sinful to kill a Priest.’”

It is certainly not. But there is a rider to it in the law prevailing in many countries. In exercise of the right to self defense one is allowed to use force compatible with the impending threat. That is if the threat can be removed by brandishing a weapon than there is no need to actually kill the adversary. But some countries do not take this view. Shoot to kill is a valid defense.

I don't think so. If someone breaks into my house and messes with my family would it be sin to shoot them or let them mess with my family. I think it is my right and expectation to take the guy out who is invading my home. I would expect everyone to do the same. Protect what is yours.

Jesus (who is the author of our faith in God) would say YES! he said NOT TO RESIST an evil person, Jesus said to turn the other cheek.., he himself could have killed millions and doomed the world rather than let men torture him and kill him.

If by some slim chance you can defend yourself, not if you are being harmed for the sake of the Gospel. I could not Imagine God respect a human being for just letting someone kill his or her child or just sit idly by while a child is beaten to death, raped or other heinous acts. But as far as personally as an adult - we should not be striking out.

In the case of protecting a child, a person should not kill unless that is what it takes (with no other option available) to protect the child.
