Does the older something gets the more true it gets? Does this mean that when the bible was first written it was more false and a poor creditable resource for proving God whereas now it is not?

The reason I ask this question is because I see Christians all the time saying "How can it not be true if it's been around for 2000 years?"

Just because the bible exists this doesnt mean that God exists. The stories written in the bible were not all written at the same time the bible spans a huge period of time and I would have thought that through the telling of stories from generation to generation this would lead to discrepencies as the stories are passed on so I certainly wouldnt take what is written as "gospel". Also it is a widely known fact that the catholic church decided what should be put into the bible and what stories should be left out so as to suit its own ends.

Yes and no?

No, the age of it does not make it more credible. And I don't think someone could make the case for it being false when it was written only because it was so new at the time. (Look at how people treated the Dr. Spock book -- or whatever it was -- back in the 60s about raising babies. People clung on to that book like it was the gospels. And decades later he comes out to admit that perhaps his advice was misguided.)

However, God has made sure that his words have survived the test of time so in a way, because the Bible still exists is some evidence that he exists.

There were doubters when texts were being written and there are doubters now. The Bible never stated anything scientifically nor historically inaccurate. Even at a time when people had no concept of vastness of earth an thousands of years before people, the Bible indicates in Isaiah 40:22 that the earth is round. Before scientists were able to theorize and prove that it wasn't heathful to be in close proximity to human feces, God had a law to safeguard his people from exposing themselves to it.

Age doesn't make something true or not. Experience bears it out. The Bible has been proven time and time again with signs, wonders, miracles, the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the changed life of every true believer.

But if you don't believe that, you won't see or experience the power of it for yourself.

There is nothing true found in satan, (guess who's prompting you to doubt the truth right now?) but he's far older than the earliest recorded book of the Bible. Time hasn't made him more creditable, but doubting the only weapon you have against him certainly gives him undue power over your life.

Why settle for the low life when you can live in the power of the Most High?

NO that is not the premise it is based on. The premise is about the profecies or predictions of the future. There were many profecies about Jesus and he fulfilled them all from being born of a virgin to many many others. The whole Bible is full of predictions of the future, some have already come true, and others are happening now in the news..
This is the argument we have with islam, their are no predictions that have come true, and they admit it. Islam says that the fact that a uneducated man had a book written is a miracle, which most people reject..

Not really. The bible was written by a bunch of men not God, over a number of years. There is a belief that they were guided by God, but it still doesn't prove the existence of God. I wish that when something gets older it becomes truer, that would make me the truest thing alive. Hah!

To answer you initial question. No, if something is false to begin with, no amount of time in theory could make it true. The Bible is not a means to prove that God exists or not. It can be however a means for one to have enough circumstantial evidence to make a decision or not as to whether or not they believe a God to exist.

There has been enough scientific evidence which supports events in the Bible did occur to some extent. For instance, science and history has proven that King Solomon existed and that he had great wealth. Science and history has proven great wars existed as illustrated in the Bible between warring nations.

However, since God is a supernatural, no direct evidence can be used to support his existance or not. Frankly, being a Christian myself, I believe it was designed to be that way. What's the purpose of striving for belief in a God if you can just prove one exists through science. I'd rather place my efforts in proving how the Earth could not have been created by mere chance. Mathematics along can validate that macro-evolution is statistically impossible.

It is not a credit to God existence, but it is a credit to our belief in Him and His Word. The Bible is the most popular, best selling book ever written.

The older something gets has nothing to do with its credibility. It just becomes antiquated and begins to lose credibility. Except for the Bible.

Prove that Bible is 2000 years old.

No...there are examples of writing (mostly stone tablets) that predate the Bible, but none preport to be the Word of God, nor have these writings been analysed as closely.

It's the constant scrutiny and analysis of the Bible for 2000+ years that lends credence to its claim to be God-breathed, not its age.
