As mentioned, Photoshop makes it harder and harder to tell a true photograph from a doctored image. With Limewire, Kazaa and other file-sharing software, everyone is able to get some type of image editing software that will allow them to make changes to their digital images.
However, photographs are still accepted as means of evidence in court and proof for insurance reasons. However, the use of photographs in either one of these circumstances requires a lot of rules and specifications that make it hard for a person to doctor up their images.

Well I agree that you can change images very easily with the advent of the computer. You could also do the same thing before in a darkroom. I guess you would want to back up the photos with some first hand accountable witnesses. Video is also getting easier to manipulate so I guess those people that love to change the truth are pretty happy at the present time.

Getting more and more dodgy with the ready availability of Photoshop and it's like. Historic Photographs published in hard copy in the past are mostly OK but anything modern has to come from a very trusted source before it can be relied on.

It's not nearly as "reliable" as it used to be. Modern digital imaging makes doctoring of photos much too easy. There was a time when convincing fakes could only be produced by experts - now anybody can do it.
As we have seen in recent days, propagandists can create visual media to suit their ends just as easily as they can write their lies.

I think these cant be presented as an authentic proof, especially in today's world, where any one can edit/ mend/ forge these with the help of pic editing softwares.

Too many ways to alter photography. It is not exact, and sparks a whole other debate.

If you have negatives, then sure.
If it's digital, probably not unfortunately.
