Your teacher is an idiot... But remember, just play along. She is in charge of your grade and whether or not it will be hell for you.

Confining our discussion to pot purchased in the US, it comes from farmers in Southern states and along the West Coast, otherwise ordinary people with grow rooms in their houses or in warehouses, and sometimes organized drug cartels of Central and South America. Personally I think that the last is less common than the others. While drug cartels do a lot of not-so-nice things, mostly killing people from rival cartels, they tend to focus more on cocaine, and to a lesser extent, heroin.
And I've never heard of drug cartels giving their money to anyone but themselves and governments that they needed to bribe to stay in business.
Oil, on the other hand, pumps money directly into the hands of the governments of the countries where it is produced. Governments like Iran, which are well-known state sponsors of terrorism. Opium poppies are produced in some of the same countries, and were known to supply funds to the Taliban.
There was some talk of Afghan hash showing up in the States in large quantities in the 80's, but that was a little before my time. Every report from the last five years on drug production in Afghanistan I've heard was about opium. If you say "drugs support terrorism" there's some sliver of potential validity to the statement. "Hard drugs support terrorism" would be better, "there's some chance that some hard drugs support terrorism" would be better still. But saying "pot supports terrorism" is ridiculous. Does Al Qaeda somehow get a percentage if you grow your own?
If they ever busted a pot ring that was funneling money to terrorists, it would be plastered all over the headlines. I haven't heard anything of the kind (no pun intended) have you?

Your teacher is right but I think it is opium (heroin) that is the problem, not pot. Large amounts of opium is grown and produced in Afghanistan and the profits are used to fund terrorism.
Our oil consupmtion from the Middle East isn't helping us at all in the war on terror. If oil money is being used to fund terrorism, it hasn't been proven (but I don't doubt that much of it is).

With marijuana, most of that consumed in the US is grown here. With oil, the majority which is produced comes from the Middle East.
Last time I checked, a person who grows a few pot plants in the middle of the woods didn't blow up a plane or crash one into the World Trade Center. Islamists crashed the planes.

If you live in the US then we try not to buy oil from countries that support terrorism. China buys from anyone that will sell, and we buy products from China. Many drugs do come from drug cartels that support violence and terrorism, but who can tell.. You shouldn't be doing drugs any way.

I have never bought weed from a terrorist! I really think people who are planning terrorist attacks would not be bothered with small potatoes stuff like marijuana. They'd be better of running moonshine. (that's a joke) However, buying oil does put sickening amounts of money into the pockets of many in the middle east. Nobody wants to face the problem with our dependence on foreign oil cuz then what would we do without it?!?!?

Buying pot is supporting the drug lords in South America, and terrorism isn't really their thing, unless someone ticks them off. Personally, I don't like the idea of supporting drug lords or terrorists.
Of course, Afganistan is apparently growing poppies to sell for their opium, so purchasing any kind of drug is putting money in the mouth of drug lords, either in South American or elsewhere.

Your teacher is just trying to make you "say no to drugs" and some crap like that. The government needs to take all of their energy and put it into protecting us from terrorists and serial killers, instead of packing our jails with people just trying to get high for fun or to eleviate their physical or mental pains in some way. I know alot of you will look down on this answer. But, why should our government be able to tell us that drinking alcohol is O.K. and turn around and arrest people for other mind altering substances? How is it their place to decide what chemicals we want to put in our bodies in the privacy of our own homes? They do much worse things to soldiers in the name of research, without their knowledge or consent. So, their government issue morality is selective at best, and opressively manipulative to be sure.

YOU are correct. The teacher probably means buying opium which actually does support terrorists in Afghanistan. Pot? not sure I see the connection.
