Have you ever wondered if Moses went up to Mt. Sainai (sp?), got drunk, and decided to carve these 10 made up rules on stone and say that God told him to do so? This is not a question that is meant to offend or incite any hate. I was just wondering if anyone else ever thought of this. And don't go defending by quoting the Bible because I can say the same thing about the Bible. If we saw someone today that said they were talking to God, we would have them institutionalized. Back then, they were pious and they wrote all of the "messages from God" down and made the Bible.

Jesus said the Pharisees themselves didn't believe Moses. Even though they prided themselves on living by all the rules and wielding the law like a weapon to impose undue burdens on others, they didn't really believe what Moses wrote...otherwise they would have recognized Who was standing right there in front of them.

I'm not defending anything - I'm just answering your question with historically correct information.

Just a sidenote: Contrary to what many people believe...including people in the church today....the law wasn't given so we could live under a bunch of rules to "get right with God". The law was given to show us God's holy standard of righteousness and how our fallen Adam-corrupted natures could never stand up to that. The law was given to show us our need for a Savior....not to make us right with God.

True religion is so much more than good morals or a strict set of rules. It's total freedom, joy, and victory in the power of the Holy Spirit, instead of our own limited understanding or so-called "power".

And by the way - you can have me committed, because I talk with the Lord every day. And I hear His voice talking with me, every day. You learn to recognize His voice when you come to know Him from His word. That isn't a defense - that's simply the truth. He created you and each and every person to be able to communicate with Him. Don't limit yourself to believing only the things you can taste, see, hear and touch. There is far more to this life and the age to come than things which are tangible or audible.

From my reading of Machiavelli's 'Il Principe', I believe that was his assessment. He speaks glowingly of Moses and Abraham, yet hints within the text suggest that he does not believe in God. So clearly, he thinks Moses just went up the hill, and came down again with laws. But he told everyone he didn't write the laws, no no, they were written by God. Of course Machiavelli would consider that brilliant. I mean you don't even need police. God sees everything. These are His laws. You can't get away with breaking any of them.

I'm not trying to suggest what did or did not happen on Mt Sinai, I'm just suggesting that I believe others have had this thought before too.

I'm guessing a psychologist could find lots of evidence of schizophrenia, psychosis and another delusion thinking in those stories. Acting from ignorance, people then might have believed these guys were something special. Especially as someone with a problem like schizophrenia can be just as oratorically powerful and intelligent as anyone else. Paranoid thinking and conspiracy theories are always popular, so that wouldn't hurt their believability either.

Well, after correctly predicting all the things that happened in Egypt, parting the sea, etc., I'd say Moses had a pretty direct link to the Big Guy, so no, don't think he'd dare to lie. God had already proven He could do anything He wanted to do, so lying about Him would probably have gotten Moses good and dead.

Has anyone ever wondered if moses was a real person at all. The bible is the only record of him. Perhaps he is just a story.

You're assuming Moses existed in the first place. There's hardly any evidence there was such a guy. The Bible is full of stories.

It's all about believing. you can choose to believe in the bible or not. i follow the bible strongly. the more and more i look at everything, its all repeating its self, but with Moses being real. we may never know, but either way its about the moral of the stroy. just like the man who throws the seeds the out and two fell on the rocks and eatin by the birds, and two on the dirt. they both grew but one was withered and dead, of course no one cares about plants but it has a meaning, maybe those plants were never there, but its the point that it has a message in the story that we all need to know. which is, the two that landed on the rocks, were disbelievers and the one who grew but withered is the one who says they believe in God but doesnt preach or pray. the one that grew strong and healthy, is the one who believe in God and prays and preaches his word.

No because you forgot the rest of the story.
When he came back from the mountain top he had aged 20 years and he literally glowed from being in the presence of God. The people saw this and it was recorded.

Have you ever wondered if what you were taught in secular schools was a lie? or is it that you are just "comfortable" in what is being said? Satan is the father of lies and has had thousands of years of expierance in fabricating lies and making them seem so sensable to men.
People will believe what is comfortable to them because it is what they want to believe.
Natural people cannot understand the bible because they dont have the ability to do so, this is written in 1st Cor. 2:14
