I have a long hair, and she is more susceptible to urinary infections because of a rare fold, Peanut is seven years old, though she does not like the full grooming treatment at the Vet, she does appreciate the monthly shavings, your Vet and grooming technician will advise you on her attitude....ask the groomer how they will DRY her....My baby does NOT like the Blowers they use. Some Techs will let you stay and supervise the first time.....Good Luck.

I wouldn't want to have a hymalian shaved but definately take her to a vet or someplace where they specialize in cutting and cleaning up cat's fur. You and the poor cat will be much happier...please don't shave the poor kitty.

Don't shave your cat. It can cause skin irritation, she'll be more likely to get cuts and scratches, and funily enough, despite what scientists may say to the contrary, she will have a sense of embarrassment! Plus, she won't be able to maintain her body warmth. The best thing to do if she no longer likes brushing is to trim off matts as and when you find them. As long as she isn't pulling her fur out at the roots and making herself bleed, it's okay for her to remove them herself. You just need to keep an eye out to make sure matts don't get tangled too much. Again, at the first sign, cut them out and be careful you don't nip the skin. You could try brushing her again while she's eating, especially if you give her a special 'favourite' food to distract her.

Cutting her hair is no problem if she doesn't have personality problems. At ten she may be having medical problems that cause her to act very different. The best way to do this is hold her by the back of the neck and raise her so the front feet are just off the table. This calms cats very quickly. you can take her to the vet and have her sedated and then cut the hair.

Yes! Cats are probably the most prideful animals on earth...not just the little ones, but the big ones too...Their fur is like there out-fit....It would kinda be like someone taking scissors to your favorite dress, while you are wearing it...................Being an older cat...getting shaved, could cause her to have a stroke. If I were you, I would take her to the vet...and they will be able to give you the best advice...probably for free. Good Luck!

Well the actual process of cutting the hair might be a bit traumatic or confusing but overall I think it should be fine. They may feel uncomfortable till they get used to it. If we get a bad hair cut and don't like it, we might be upset for a bit but after a while we get over it and it grows back. Maybe its the same for animals?

they will put your cat to sleep, then shave it, the stress won't kill it, leaving the matted hair is worse, the new coat doesn't mat as much, for some reason.
