Recently Warren Buffett announced that he was turning over a share of his fortune to the Bill Gates Foundaton. Warren Buffet also owns Berkshire Hathaway, which owns MidAmerican Energy. MidAmerican has huge electric utility and power plant holdings in Iowa, Utah, Illinois, Oregon, Wyoming, Washington, Idaho, and California. Bill Gates should team up with Warren Buffet to bring the technological innoviaton and entrepeneurship from the computer sector to the electric utility sector, which is one of the least innovative and risk adverse industries out there. This show of business leadership is absolutely necessary to spark the technological innovation we need to usher in new wave of less polluting technologies to combat global climate change, especially since Federal policy makers have completely abdicated their moral responsiblity to show leadership on this issue of vital global concern. MidAmerican could demonstrate and deploy these advanced technologies and then transfer them to the rest of the world to improve the standard of living of people everywhere while reducing the harmful public health and environmental impacts of electricity generation.
