Dogs have been having puppies for thousands of years without human intervention. If you have an understanding boss, you can ask for the time off, but I don't think it's necessary.

Well, there are things you could do BEFORE they are born lol. For one, you could make a comfortable spot for your dog to have her puppies. Most may create a little area in the corner of a room for the dog filled with maybe newspaper and cloth. Hmmm I wouldn't recomend doing this next part UNLESS you know what your doing, but you can also cut the hair from around her nipples and clean around them, so that way when the puppies are born, they won't get any dirt or unneccisary germs in their mouth. Now after the puppies are born, make sure there is enough room for her to lay down and feed her puppies WITHOUT her laying on them. I've had puppies die all because my dog was big and didn't know she was laying on a puppy. Keep some food and water next to her so that way she won't have to get up away from the puppies. Hmm while your at work, if you set up everything already, she should be fine! :)

Dogs have puppies when ever they want. My dog had her first litter at seven at night, and she had the second litter at five in the afternoon.

I was there for the first and I did help her. She is a mini dachshund and she lost one. the second litter she had two by herself and then she had to go to the vet. She was in labor all night and didn't have any more. She had one stuck in her birth canal. It's a good thing we did, because she had three more live ones left to deliver. So she had a total or five live and one still born. Some dogs, if this is her first, don't always know what to do. Plus if she is young she will want you around. My dog did. If she couldn't see me, she came to where I was at. They want to feel safe, and you are her safety net. I thought my dog was done having her litter, and I was wrong. I gave her a bath and cleaned her up, but she had one more pup. That one did not come until late at night. Her last one(thought it was) came around nine. then she had another one at 11:30 and that one was still born. I tried every thing I could and it died. I felt so bad because it did. A dog is pregnant for up to 60 to 65 days, if you know when she got pregnant. If her temp(rectally) is 99 she is ready or almost. If it stays that way for two days, she is ready. She will follow you around and start panting. She will also dig the floor, which they call nesting, if you havent got a place set up for her, that is what they do. Try to find a place and get it ready. An old shower curtain will help protect the floor or rug from the blood. I got clean thread and scissors and I helped her do the first pup. Cut the cord and tried it off. Then she finished cleaning them and bit off the thread. But that is ok. Get another box for the pups, to put them in while she is having the others. Put in a heating pad under a towel to keep it warm for them. When she is all done, then put the pups in with her. But if she is done, and she will let you, clean her up and make her more comfortable. When she is done, bring her some water, because she won't leave them. Give her a treat of some yogurt. Will help her also. I did with my dog.

Hope this helps you out some and if you need more info, send me a message and I will give you all I know. Have a nice night, and let us knonw how she did, and how many she had.

You need to be at home when the pups are born, as if she is having a hard time she'll need to go to the vet immediately to save her life and the lives of her pups in case any are stuck inside. You also need to call a vet NOW and make an appointment to have her spayed as soon as possible after the puppies are born. If you cannot afford it, call the local animal shelter and they may be able to get it done for you at a reduced rate, but it MUST be done! Be responsible and take care of this dog by doing this for her...it is your duty.

Most dogs can have their pups by themselves, however, some breeds have trouble. Also some dogs do not know what to do if it is their first litter of puppies. If you can not be there when she is due to have the pups, which is 63 days after breeding, you may ask someone else to check on her while you are at work. If not, the vet will board animals so that may be a good place to leave her while you work.

Most likely she can do it on her own. Some dogs do have trouble but I would say it is the dogs that are bred to high, your more fragile, small dogs. Big dogs like Retrievers usually do fine. If you go to work and come home and some are dead, it is usually because something was wrong with the pup. If you are really close to your dog, she would probably like you their to comfort her. Some people I think do get a damp towel and help clean the babies for the mom but if Mom is doing a good job than let her do it.

STAY HOME!!! When my dog had puppies she was in labor for a long time with the first three and the fourth had to be pulled out by a vet because she was so much larger than the first three and my dog was exhausted from the labor. You have to be there to make sure the mother is laboring normally- they're just like people and can bleed to death or have other complications.

Why are you breeding puppies in the first place? You're obviously not a professional breeder, so what's your deal? Don't you know how many unwanted puppies are born in this country and how many are put to sleep or die on the streets? After these puppies are weaned SPAY YOUR DOG and DON'T breed any more puppies!!!

She will be able to take care of her puppies. Do not worry so much. Unless the mother is ill & cant do it on her own. Let her experience the joys of being a new mom. Please dont miss going to work. If you loose your job then you will just have a dog, puppies and no money!! Let her do it!!

GO HOME!! She might be able to, But most likely especially if she is a smaller pup, she cant! She could have serious issues and Die. Or all the pups could die too! GO HOME QUICK!!! I've personally helped deliver TONS of puppies, with about 20ish mommy puppies... OVER HALF had to go to the vet because they couldnt do it on their own.
