his tongue and mouth is dry now almost no saliva that's why he can't taste and swallow the food without drinking water to push it down the throat. He feels weak too especially now that his wife for almost 50 years died 3 mos. ago. But few years before the loss of saliva he already complains of taste problems only

they make artificial saliva, it actually works. I know it sounds crazy but there is such a thing. I am a cancer nurse and sometimes patent's report a decrease in saliva. They get a prescription for it and moisten their food with it. Usually patient;s thank us for it because it works

Seek him Proffesional help, he could be having a serious problem connected from the Throat, Tounge, etc.

Have him chew gum. The chewing triggers the saliva flow. If that doesn't work, you should talk to his doctor.

He definitely should be seeing a doctor regularly.

This could be something simple like dehydration.

He needs help to help himself.
