this is in regard to kennethh's response. If muslim women can't be seen in swimsuits by men then they need to get a pool in private or stay home. That's like saying my child has the flu, but I'm sending her to school you keep your children home. I thought this country was supposed to be a free country. If you want to live by Muslim rules and regulations then you go to a muslim society to live. I have a problem with people of other countries that come here and tell us how we need to bend what our country was founded on to appease them. I have no problem with people wanting to leave their country to come to America. We live in a wonderful country, but you come here and except our beliefs and rules.

it goes both ways, sometimes christians book a place for a certain amount of time in which period of time oly christians are allowed in that particular place and no others! Just the same a muslim group may have booked the swimming area for a certain amount of time. I dont really think it's anything to be offended by all religous groups book places from time to time. I can see why u are upset because u had taken ur children to go swimming and they must have been dissapointed to be turned away, but all in all it's normall for swimming pools to be booked out sometimes for a certain group of people. Having said this any muslim who says they are not treated fairly are incorrect they are treated just as fairly as every other person and this is coming from another muslim!

Maybe they made it a special time for them because they were women and children and the women most that cover are not allowed to show their bodies to anyone but their husbands. I think it's great that the pool gave them the opportunity to be there for an allotted time, that shows that people aren't always mean. I am sorry that you felt it was discriminating but the fact is, they have religious beliefs. How often do you go to a public pool or beach and see a covered Muslim woman in a bathing suit and in the pool? Never. Thanks for being understanding to their religious beliefs and not throwing a fit at the pool and making it worse.

they at the instant are not getting "specific therapy" as a results of fact they at the instant are not being allowed to do issues that the different faith can't do. the colleges are granting concessions and scheduling breaks to house their religious desires the place the colleges had or have been going to have a wreck besides. as a results of fact once you are going to have a fifteen minute wreck -- and it concerns to one team whilst it occurs yet does not remember to the different team whilst it occurs -- then it does not injury to house them. And in the San Diego case, the different faith can pray on a similar time -- no specific therapy. As for George Mason -- the scholars are utilising an area already set aside for non secular prepare. And the separation isn't being forced with the aid of the college, it relatively is totally the call of the practitioners. As for UMich-Dearborn, it is arguably an unconstitutional use of public money to pay for religious lodging that no different religions is getting. yet i've got not checked the data of that case, so i do no longer comprehend the small print to do a suited prognosis. yet evaluate that throughout Dearborn, the Arabic/Muslim inhabitants is over 30% of the whole student inhabitants.

This is a cultural difference that your local swimming pool is trying to accommodate. The Muslim woman can't be seen in swimming suits be men. This is not special treatment it is just due consideration for their sensitivities and beliefs. Sometimes these things are needed to help integrate people into a society and sometimes they are permanent. This is an example of what it takes to get along with people of other beliefs.

When muslim women get married they normally go into "parda" (dont know how its spelt) but that generally means that they wear the traditional garb that covers their entire body excluding eyes. Noone except their husbands (Im not sure about other females) are allowed to see them outside of this clothing. So thats why they probably had to shut down the swimming pool. Im not one to judge anyone elses religion... I suppose they want their beliefs/traditions to be accepted as well, not just them as a people.

It's all about modesty, you have to understand their beliefs about the way a woman should dress and carry about herself, you cannot see her in a semi nude state(bathing suit), only her husband is allowed that privilege, this is VERY IMPORTANT to them; but because it is a public pool, such actions may inconvenience others, so is best for them to find pools that cater specifically for them.

where they need not have to ask for special treatment
and annoy others like you.
