The average male doesn't bench press at all. So that brings the statistic WAY down.
Casual observation at my gym would suggest that the average males who bench press there, bench about 90 to 200 pounds. Allegedly you should be able to bench your own weight. That gives a big incentive to lose the extra fat!
I never bench because I have shoulder issues causing problems if I get the bar down to my chest. My susbstitue is doing dumbbell chest presses while laying back on a Swiss Ball. I am currently doing 3 sets of 7 reps with an 80 pound bell in each hand. The advantages for me in laying on a Swiss Ball is that I have to balance which strengthens my core muscles, and, having the Swiss Ball between my shoulders keeps my arms from going back any farther than is comfortable. So it is preventing me from reinjuring my shoulders.
So I guess my current bench equivalent would be about 160. Though because of the extra balance needed by having a seperate weight in each hand instead of the stability given by the bar, and the instability of the Swiss Ball, the equivalent bench press is probably somewhat higher. Guys who bench press using a Smith Machine need no stability at all. A Smith Machine doesn't give you nearly the muscular development that dumbbells do. When you have to stabilize seperate weights in all planes of motion you are calling far more muscles into play. The guys who use a Smith Machine aren't using nearly as many muscles and will not grow as fast.

The average male who has not undergone any weight training (or any within recent years) is capable of benching anywhere from 115 lbs to 150 lbs.
The bench press world record set by Scott Mendelson is 1008 lbs (with steriods and a bench press shirt).
Average bench with training is anywhere from 100-? lbs. Factors effecting this include things like time (in terms of how long the person has been training and age), body chemistry and diet.

Don't know if there's an actual number, like 180 pounds, but most men cannot bench press their own weight. That would be an interesting study, to see what the average male bench press is in terms of actual weight and percentage of the man's body weight. All we know right now is that percentage is well under 100% for most men.

There is no average. I know people who can only bench 100 pounds and some who can bench over 300.

Hi there!
I don't think there is an average that is published. However, based on the guys that I see in gym(s) over the last 20 yrs, I would say the average max is probably about 200 pounds among weight lifters. For the normal male population (non weight lifters), it is going to be considerable less than that.
I believe this answers your question, but if not, you may email me.
Good luck on your diet and fitness goals!

Yeah no idea.
It should not be relevant unless you are competing with someone else in a lifting competition, in which case you would be aiming to achieve your best to beat their best - not comparing to a lower average.
It is not relevant, unless you are doing your weights to impress your friends in some macho way, which is really not the best reason or motivation - it is likely to lead to injury.
Just take your time, use proper technique, do a well rounded routine, eat well, rest well, don't try to be a he-man. You will become a strong and well muscled guy over time.
