About a month ago, I made a choice. My choice was to be with the person I am with. If I was at lunch with someone, my cell was in my purse on vibrate. If I went to a movie, my cell phone in my purse on vibrate. In short - the person in front of me became more important.
I have found my relationships with friends and family have gotten so much better!
I challange you to do that for a week. There is very little that can't wait an hour for you to get back to them, and you have voice mail.

*For emergencies, my family have been instructed to call once, go all the way to voice mail, then call again. This lets me know to pick up the phone and see who it is. If it isnt them - I put the phone away.

Let me know how it works - I'll try to keep this open for at as long as yahoo will let me - hopefully at least 7 days!

To my friend in the UK - in the US, we call the cell phones - I know - we claim to speak English but it's really American!!

I don't know about over there, but I know here we struggle with our bondage to the ringing phone......... so the challage is out there!!!

Good for you! I try to do this anyway. Even if my phone is on a ringer (vs. vibrate) I ALWAYS look at the phone an 98 times out of 100 will silence the ringer and resume my interaction with the person I'm with (it's on silent at the movies!).

The other 2 times when I NEED to take the call, it's because it is something that can't wait, and I excuse myself from the other person's presence to take the call.

Smart thinking, but I'm not sure everyone would be able to stick your challenge out - we can't seem to function without our cellphones permanently attached to our ears these days....

It's called a mobile, and anyone with any level of manners would do this anyway.
No challenge whatsoever.
cheers

I would but I do not own a cell phone. My life does not need this.

Grate idea. I believe you are right. It shows interest and respect for those you are with. That is good phone etiquette.

That's cool. Believe it or not, I hardly use my cell phone anyway, so I accept your challenge.
