The only difference is there's no scenery when your on the treadmill. I really enjoy looking around when I'm running or walking, that's why I didn't purchase one myself.

Hi there!
If you are training for cross country races or something like this, you probably are going to want to train outside since it is a better simulation of what you are going to do. Also, keep in mind that most treadmills only go up to 10 mph, or a six minute mile.
However, if you are just looking for exercise, treadmills are actually BETTER for you due to the flex deck. Your body takes less abuse on them over time; it is better for your knees, back, etc.
I believe this answers your question, but if not, you may email me.
Good luck on your diet and fitness goals!

It isn't as effective by far. It also requires a motivated person. If you're running outside, no matter how far you go, you always have to get back home. On a treadmill in your house there are always distractions and at anytime you can just jump off and be done.

Most treadmills (except the really low end ones) have an option to incline so you can run uphill on whatever slope you want. The main treadmill advantage is you can use it whenever you want without worrying about rain or snow or darkness or even dogs in the neighborhood. You also don't have to worry about twisting an ankle on tough uneven ground. You can even watch TV while you are doing it - you can't do that outdoors.

I would say just as effective, but did you know that walking on that treadmill (or outside) burns as many calories as running in the same amount of time, and saves your knees and other joints from so much strain?

you would be better off buying yourself a bike.
Getting a treadmill is completely pointless as you can run outside for free! And with a bike you have a choice of two types of exercise!

It's as effective except the fact that you can enjoy more running outside with fresh air (depends on place) and moving places compared to the static environment of home

no running in place is just that you burn calories but not as many as runnng outside running on a treadmill is constricting there is no place to move your arms legs etc running outside you have further to run you can run at a faster or slower pace and you move better releasing more calories at one time

no, there is less resistance on a treadmill, but I reckon a treadmill would get used more and you can monitor you fitnees, hence maybe do more effective excersise.
dont fork out tonnes on one util you have trained outside for 6 months first otherwise you will give up on it......
go for it!!!!
