Martin Sheen played a gruff Special Forces guy in 'Apocalypse Now'; Sean Penn played a soldier in 'Casualties of War.' Tim Robbins played a fighter pilot ("Merlin") in 'Top Gun'. Danny Glover played soldiers in 'Operation Dumbo Drop', 'Flight of the Intruder' and 'Bat 21'.

....... these guys and their Hollyweird friends love to protest against war, yet they've gotten rich from glorified portrayals of war in film and tv.Hollywood in general is the biggest anti-war voice out there, but watch how many Iraq War movies they start pumping out in the years to come. They're no better than Halliburton when it comes to profiting off of war.

I am an Iranian and a persian. Mr. Jaimie I read your view and it was fantastic. But for others I should say I am really sorry for you. You really dont understand that for example me as an Iranian how I feel about this movie. Not only this movie but other movies that hollywood makes to insult Iranians such as The Great Alexander. I want you just imagin if hollywood made a movie, and insulted your people, your country and your ancestors even if the movie was just for fun not a dodumantry and you knew that other people such as Americans who do not know anything about that subject and believe the first thing that they see, how would you feel?? Believe me, I love hollywood's movies, and I wish I just wish that I could sit and watch that movie for fun, laugh and.... But I cant. None of Iranians can. There was a time that I thought why hollywood makes movies about different countries and famous people, but it never makes any movie to show Iran, to show persia, and the great history and civilization that we had. But now I say oh thank you, I dont wish anymore that hollywood makes any movie about my countriy. I wish that they dont make any. I prefer other people dont know anything about my country rather than knowing some false and wrong informations. I even bet what you've heard about my people in this time, the people who now live in Iran is all lying and is all wrong and false. That is what suffers me and lots of other Iranians.

These are not particularly good examples.

Tim Robbins was the navigator and could hardly be seen under his mask.

Danny Glover is trying to do the right thing and help a Vietnamese village in "Dumbo Drop", and sees first hand the horrors of war in "Bat 21".

Martin Sheen watches everyone around him die and he himself goes mad as well as we look at the absurdity of war.

Sean Penn was near psychotic in "Casualty".

These films show the toll that war can take on people and ask us to examine the great costs of them all.

The true hypocrisy comes from decrying violence, there reveling in it.

Anyone who does not protest the war is just an idiot at this point. All we have done is sink billions of dollars into an unnecessary war that has resulted in well over 30,000 civilian deaths, 15,000 injured American soldiers, and 2,500 dead American soldiers. And for what? Gas is now more expensive, we have put our military in harms way for no good reason. Iraq may no longer have a dictator, but the citizens are no safer now than before. The recent foiled terror attack on American planes shows that we are no safer from terror attacks either. They are still plotting against us. In fact our invasion of Iraq has given them even greater belief that we are evil and need to be attacked.

So what have we gained? What reason do we have to support this horrific and costly blunder that Bush has created?

Seriously, this has nothing to do with Hollywood. This is about common sense.

That's a good point, but when they play soldiers, they're not supporting war. They're actors and that's their job. For example, Kevin Bacon can play a child molestor in "The Woodsman" without condoning their crimes.

And some of those movies you listed were anti-war movies, although i've never seen dumbo drop.

Still, it is a little hypocritical when they make all that money off of war movies, and then go out of their way to protest because it's the cool thing to do in hollywood.

Everybody with an ounce of sense knows Hollywood America writes its own history 2 suit.
Watch Enigma, note the statement at the end.
They didn't crack the code, the Brits did!
and as 4 Pearl Harbour, what a joke!
The attack was in retaliation 4 the bombing a Japanese U-boat of the coast of Canada, a week B4 hand!
Ordered by Eisenhower 2 pave the way 4 the US 2 march in & take all the glory 4 the fall of Berlin.
Need a giggle?

The battle of Berlin,
Germans fire, the Brits ducked.
Brits fired the Germans ducked.
The Yanks fired, Everybody ducked!

Wow.......your logic is, well, bizarre.

So in your mind only actors with a military background should be used in warrior portrayals?...only real imprisoned serial killers for "The Silence of the Lambs"...and on & on & on.

Hollywood is not the "biggest anti-war voice" in the US - they may be the ones that get the most press - 2 different things entirely.

If it bothers you that anti-war actors take on soldier characters, don't watch those films. Pretty simple.

I find your specious arguments strangely amusing. Thanks for the laugh - but your parents really should ask for their money back from any schools you attended!

Agreed! Danny Glover promotes Gun Control and look at the amount of people his character killed in the "Lethal Weapon" moves.

Like it or not, war is big business and entertainment. People will always go to see a war movie, and studios love to make them. Hollywood is full of bullshit on every level, which is why they are so hypocritical.

It's all about money. There's also a saying that sums up their involvement with the protests. "There's no such thing as bad publicity..." Mo money, mo money, mo money! People respond to name recognition. If their name is out there, and they make a movie, people will go see it. That's money in their pocket. Who cares if their name is associated with something bad, people know their name and want to see who they are.
