It's 2 pounds of sugar and 1 cup of milk, melt the sugar down slowly then add the milk, be very careful as it foams like mad and can be very dangerous if you get it on your skin! When the mixture is boiling up and coming away from the sides of the pan (it takes about 20 minutes) run a cold tap and hold the pan at a slight angle so the water runs down just one side of the pan and beat it like mad, then pour it into a shallow tray to set.

I think it is "Lees" that make the most common types of tablet here in Scotland. It's easy to make - really just sugar and not much else! It's great though. I might go out and get some now actually............

Yes but Staven Toffee is the best.
Condensed milk, butter and sugar. Melts in the mouth, rots your teeth and puts pounds on your hips. mmmmmmmmmmm.
I need to go and make some now!

I'm British, never heard of it, but from the answers here it sounds like caramel shortcake.

I make shortcake, then put a couple of tins of condensed milk (unopened) in a pan of boiling water for 4 hours, keep topping up with boiling water, at the end of 4 hours carefully open and you have toffee to spread on the shortcake.
