Get him a few wigs, which he'll realize are even more uncool, and then he'll be fine. Or find a role model of the same kind of hair color and show him that it's fine to have that color hair.

He doesn't go back until December? Anyway, I would let him dye it a soft color of brown or something like that if it really bothers him this much. But also sit down and talk with him about this. Looks aren't what is important, and more children need to be taught this. Some children are bullied, or ignored for things they can't change, a bent nose, a scar, birthmark, large lips and so on. They can't change these, and should never be judged because of them. I would let him dye his hair a little bit darker, but at the same time, talking to him about how the inside is what really matters. I wish you all the best, 10 is an age where what your friends thinks really matters more than it should. :( I agree with Supergrrr too, as I have taken this route before, not necessarily taking them to a kid with cancer, but showing them kids that don't have hair, and to be thankful they do. One little girl around here can't grow hair at all, I forget the condition she has, but she'll never be able to grow her own hair, and it has taught the children here a lot about how hair doesn't really matter. She could wear a wig, but the children are so used to her now, that she doesn't feel the pressure to do so, which I think it is great at how well the children have accepted her. :)

there's a lot he could do to change his appearance, but is that really what is making him depressed?
get some magazines let him check out hair styles and colors, take him to some nice salons and have the hair stylists show him some hair color samples.
let him know he is beautiful in his own way and try talking to him about things that are bothering him. everyone is different and that's what makes the world so great. if it really helps him to feel that much better then go for it. but remind him he'll still be the same him on the inside. It's hard for kids to compete w/ others especially in school- no matter how you look, kids can be mean and tease about anything, so I hope he finds confidence and self esteem to help him through...good luck!

i dont want to sound tooo harsh, but maybe take him to the local cancer ward in your local hospital and show him all the little kids that have NO hair due to cancer and chemo. that way he may be a little more grateful for his health and a little less bothered about things like the colour of his hair!!! Tell him that he is unique and God made him that way and if anyone teases him he should just point out to them that his hair might be pale ginger but at least he doesnt have to put other people down to feel better about himself.

I guess you should dye it. But your best bet is to use a semi coloring which is only temporary. Because he might not like the new color neither. Or you can tell him to just suck it up and be glad that his hair color isn't like everyone else. PLUS.. he is TEN.. he can't refuse to go to school. He doesn't have a choice on the matter. Tell him that... or give in. Which ever one floats ur boat. :)
Glad to help.

Dye his hair with temporary dye that only last a month or two. One or two shades darker should be suffice. It will eventually fade back to his natural color and he might not even notice the change back to his norm.

Threaten to shave it off. Just kidding! Find somebody famous that has his hair color, preferably somebody that he can idolize. He might thinks its cool. Look into your family tree and show him somebody in his family that has the same color hair, he just might take pride in it. If all else fails, dye it.

ask him if he hates himself, if he says no, that means he can't hate his hair because it's part of himself, if he says yes then say he should be going back the school so that he can punish himself by letting his classmate to languah about his hair, if he says he doesn't know then tell him that's why he should be going back to school to find out.
