It is more like being drafted. The Jews were a chosen people because God promised Jacob that his children would be given the Jewish religion.

Paul used elect and chosen to mean people of the church. Paul assumed he was writing to good people.

Without getting into the politics of your question. It refers to the one's chosen by God. In the Old Testament of the Bible, the Jews are the chosen people.

The term "Chosen People" (Am Nivchar) does not mean racially superior, choseness does imply a special uniqueness.

What is this uniqueness?

Well, let's not let the anti semites off of their medications please. The term "chosen people" has be present in many religions. It implies that a given tribe, nation, or other grouping is specially favored by a god or gods.
