Was there a real winner?

Israel had a pretty bad reputation on the Muslim side, and not too hot on the Western side either.

Whether or not Hez lost, it got its message across/distracted people from the real issues and point blame on the Israelites (although I myself don't really approve of their very aggressive military tactics, nor do I like the US one).

OK, I don't know how much of a serious answer you are after, but here goes...

Nobody won and nobody ever expected to win. The situation is just a militarization of the ongoing political will to jostle for position in the middle east. Much of what happened was Iran and Syria fighting a proxy war with the USA (via Israel and Lebanon) as Arab nations try to win kudos and Israel tries to assert itself in the region. It won't stop just because there is a ceasefire.

I read a journal article yesterday that explained how Hezbollah has 'improved' its casualty rate from 16:1 against Israel back in the 90s to 1:1 now. They win prestige in the Arab world for this; a small force outsmarting the Israelis despite the disparity in numbers and resources, but it will never be able to fight Israel in a traditional war. Israel must assert its position so other Arab nations don't push them around. In this sense, there is political gain on both sides, but of course as with any war, the question is whether the human loss is worth it.

In War there are no winners. But once you get past that Israel had a higher kill rate and fought the good fight, they fight Wars like they should be fought. Hezbollah fought this war like guerrilla fighters hiding behind civilian targets more like terrorist than warriors they have no honor.

Hizbullah won the war. Although I dont support this "terrorist organisation", I believe that they have won. Israel has destroyed LOTS of homes and killed LOTS of civilians but they didn't kill much of the gurillas. The hizbullah killed lots of Israeli soldiers but much LESS civilians. The main target for both was to destroy the soldiers of the other. The result was heavy cassualties on Israeli troops.

Niether one. Both sides are just regrouping before the next round. Don't worry I am sure hezballa will continue to launch missles into Isreal, kidnap poeple from the border, and blow up women and children where ever they can and then retreat back into the hole they crawled out of and let the innocent poeple of lebanon take another round of shelling from Isreal. Stupidity knows no bounds.

Who cares! Let the Middle East fall apart, once the dominant party comes to power, destroy them, then introduce western reformations.
