I would start with a psychologist as they are university trained but if you find you don't feel comfortable with this particular person try the social worker. Don't give up keep searching for someone you're comfortable with.I have been struggling with depression and bipolar for the last 7 years if you can find a good psychiatrist all the better.I think the most important thing is that you never give up hope of beating depression and find the person you feel most comfortable with.

Neither. I'd go to an MD if I felt I needed medication. Psychologists can't prescribe anything. Second, get a good friend. They're free. A psychologist cannot tell you anything that you don't already know or that a good friend wouldn't tell you.
Social workers are not qualified to deal with depression and stress.

In terms of stress I would recommend change of lifestyle. Figure out what stresses you and remove it from the situation. Easily done.
In terms of depression, visit a Doctor. Not everyone can be "treated" the same way. You may just need someone who can listen or you may need medicinal intervention.
Stress is easily dealt with, depression is not - seek help as soon as possible and Good Luck! Just know you are NOT alone, 1 in 3 people in the world suffer from some sort of depression and I think the other 2 lie ; )

i would reccommend a psychologist because they are trained to handle mental health illnesses/issues even tho you can talk to a social worker a social worker usually sets up recorses for you on where you can go for things like mental health counceling, a psychiatrist, they also discuss what is said between the social worker and patient and the dr decides which course of treatmet is better for you where a psychologist is expertized in different mental health illnesses and the degree of each illness

I personally would recommend visiting your gp and telling them symptoms so they can look at prescribing or non prescribing of meds. A psychologist or pyschotherapist are the best people to talk thru your feelings and thoughts with which you can also ask your gp to refer you to. there are stress management courses you can be referred to via your gp. A social worker should not be needed at all.Or you can always go private for quicker referral but it costs a packet! See your gp. Good luck!

Depends on the depression and stress you are experiencing .. I would strongly suggest it if you or someone you know is having thoughts of hurting oneself. I do believe that a counselor is great to help get through emotions, past hurts and obstacles in your life. It can open the door way to happiness. Speaking from myself, I have found that exercise helps a lot with dealing with stress and depression. So does taken control of ones diet. I hope all is well on your end.

I would recommend a psychiatrist first, they can prescribe and monitor medicines to treat it, the others can offer counseling. But ultimately, you need the other first before a social worker or psychologist.

just get a book about how to relieve depression and stress, and read it!. Make sure it's not written by a psychologist, because they don't know what they're talking about and everything they were taught is designed to make people less healthy, so they will always have job security.

Anytime a Psychologist.

Because s/he has been trained to understand what causes such things and can help better.

Understanding a human mind is not that easy and one needs to be quite educated for that to handle. Its all in the state of mind.

I wish you all the best and hope you come out of your stress ASAP, because there are many great things waiting for you in this world.
