i would imagine that the street nuisance who keeps tossing his ball in your garden, would really enjoy your attention. getting attention is a learned art whether it is gotten in a positive way or negative way...it's still attention. most often, when a kid is causing trouble...they are lonely and or bored. find a constructive way for the kid to behave, possibly inviting him into your garden and let him see what his football is doing to your plants. if it's feasible, hand him a shovel and let him join in. include him in your concern about it. perhaps, just being in a conversation with you will give you some insight as to how much and what kind of adult attention this guy gets or may need and give him an open opportunity to be included in a positive way.
there is good in every kid, sometimes it just takes a 'patient' adult to bring it out.
he's run into you for a reason...a 'child' seed looking for a attentive gardener, perhaps?
good luck to you!

when he comes back over keep the ball and walk next door to his house and have a chat with his mom or dad. Explain nicely that the ball keeps going into your yard an you don't like it. Most times a parent will have suggestions for the kid. (and like when we were growing up we better take those suggestions)

The neighborhood kids.......... the oldest nuisance since subaurbs sprang forth. They mean no harm (most times) but do not realize the ramifications of their actions. The next time the ball ends up in your garden and he comes to the door, tell him this is the last time and next time you will be the proud new owner of a football until his parents come to retrieve it.

tell him this is the last time you will give him the ball back so dont let it get over here again. if the ball does land in your garden again ignore it. if he says anything tell him you were warned go buy another football. i know it's hard but if you dont stand up to people they will try your patience even more. i know where your coming from cos i had the same problem but the little bugger knows not to let it come our way now

Well if you think that his parent will not report you for stealing his ball, then I wouldn't give it back. But if you think that they might raise a big stink...would it be worth it? Maybe talk to his parents and explain that is a recurring problem. Tell them if it happens again you will keep the ball, or that you will report him.

a lot of kids these days have no respect.
your better off ignoring them, any slight attention they will play on it and do it more.
if you get anoyed with them you will have it all the time.
Just see there parents, no point in dealing with the kids, unless you feel the kids do have respect.
Ask the kids nicely if you feel they would listen
Anything serious (Like unlawful acts vandalism etc) just phone the police and explain the situation, the police might call in the area and have a word with them.

Tell him to keep it away from your garden. If it then comes in again burst it and when you take it to him say it must have landed on a nail or if you have a dog then it burst it. That will serve the little sod right.

take the ball inside, let him look for it.. easy...
say maybe it went straight over your garden, and into the next one down..
go to your local charity shop, buy some stupid ornament, that looks expensive, smash it, return the ball to the lads parents, as if its his, mention the ornament was worth several hundered pounds, so now you either get money, or get to keep the ball, and he wont get another,
if they give you the money, donate it back to the charity, maybe the ball too

everytime my kids lost their ball in our neighbours garden their dog would burst it. So you could always say you can't find it and at least then you'll get some peace til his mum buys him a new ball then it will start again until his mum gets fed up buying him new balls
