Why do men choose to kill fellow men?

Humans are responsible for the inhumanity of men. They tend to form groups. They can form groups on common interests, or arbitrary skin colors. How ever they form groups, their instincts make them have compassion for those in the group and enmity for those outside of it.

One group that is particularly dangerous is religion. Religion allows a few people to control large groups. It also fuels the instinctual divide between "us" and "them". If you look at their so-called holy texts, like the Bible or Quran, you'll see many references to how you shouldn't listen to what "they" say and how "they" will try to take over the world or how "they" are evil.

Even those religions that claim tolerance for those outside the religion really only have tolerance for the purpose of converting. They promote the idea that you should "hate the sin, but forgive the sinner". This is another way of saying that one should try to pull that other over to your own belief. And other parts talk about how some will "harden their heart" and talking to them would be like "throwing pearls before swine". Therefore, this form of tolerance really is limited tolerance for the duration of time it takes to see if they can be converted. It isn't real compassion for those outside the group.

Because people in religion think their whole eternity is at risk, they frequently become very ingrained in their religion. They see the whole rest of the world as evil and out to get them.

Once you view men as inherently bad, it is much easier to kill them, especially if you think you're doing so for the common good.

Empathy is missing. Most people can't even imagine what it would like to be in another's situation. More importantly, they don't care to know. The biggest problem I see is that people treat others the way they are treated. This is a vicious circle. If people started treating people the way they want to be treated, we may be able to stop this inhumanity.

testosterone, also nationalism. (from Mike the meat head), that is our nature, it's survival (from boyfriend Matt) and I think, true that but also the need for power/control and fear. It's been my observation that you can have a good person, with good ideals and morals. Join him with two other of the same ilk and somehow things get corrupted. I don't get it either.

Only man himself! No matter what the circumstances, religion, bad weather, whatever, it is the person himself that makes the ultimate decision.

Many reasons, psychological problems, anger, hatred, jealousy, ignorance, stupidity...the list goes on. Killing is not a desirable method of getting what you want but you have to admit it is effective.
