I used to be an athiest, then I studied philosophy, buddhism, and Islam. But for some reason, the bible still stands the test of time.

It is all from the same source. One may appeal to you more than the others but that just makes it seem right for you.

This does not mean that it is best for everyone. I did the same thing for 60 years and finally settled on a book called the course in miracles that stood the test of time for me. It just makes a lot more sense to me than the bible ever did. No contradictions to wonder about. Maybe you should look into it?

You "studied philosophy, buddhism, and Islam", huh?

I think you're being very loose with the word "studied". Your posts certainly don't reflect any knowledge of philosophy. I simply do not believe you here - I think that you're making this up.

That being said, the bible does "stand the test of time", but for reasons other than those that would please you. The bible persists not because it has any insight or because it truly describes the world. It persists because it has effective systems for attracting believers and for discouraging them from leaving the belief system.

A prime example is the vagueness. If the bible made specific, verifiable predictions, it would demonstrate itself to be false, which would make it much more difficult to produce believers. So instead the bible says things like the claim that Christ will return when least expected. In that sense, it works just like horoscopes, or the women in gypsy clothes at the psychic fair.

I am part Atheist, and I have a clue. So you are Wrong. Everything is mentioned in the Bible, which is why you believe in it. The thing you might or might not know is that it is made from God which is perfection and man which is imperfection. So there are flaws in the Bible. The Bible consists of both right and wrong. Which is which, only God knows.

Example: Ignorance or Innocence? Knowledge, good or evil? Lucifer or Man, perfect or imperfect? Jesus, logical or illogical?

How could you have studied "philosophy, buddhism, and Islam" and not know how to spell "athiest"?

You and David Israel ought to hook up together one day. Christians who deceive to win converts are the worst kind.

Um, weren't you just complaining about them judging you to be uninformed? And here you are doing it to them. Now, how does this prove that the Bible still stands the test of time?

You haven't studied Donism yet. So it is you, how doesn't have a clue. You need to read and my Q&A's on Yahoo Answers. Once you have, come back to me and I will give you a pop quiz. If you pass to my satisfaction, you will be eligible to enter the kingdom.

It depends on perception.. I've studied the bible, the quran, the torah, the talmud, the book of mormon, eastern philosphy and many other texts and it has actually convinced me deities don't exist rather than do.

YOU don't have a clue. Why do you feel the need to insult other people's beliefs and ideas?

I knew about an ex-atheist. He was raised an atheist and found God. Now him and Jesus are inseperable. They tend to be much more book-smart that the average Christian though.

I'm an atheist although i haven't always been. The thing you have to remember is whatever the book is, it was written by men who are not above corruption. The bible contradicts itself throughout and its not the word of god, its the word of men pretending they know what god wants.
