Well I think that food chain is not the proper term to describe this situation. I think food web would be a better term. In the aquatic environment, both marine and fresh water, many organisms feed on each other, but can also be fed upon by the same organisms at different life stages.
For example, Pike will feed on almost all other fish species in the water as adults, but when they are newly hatched, they are fed upon by even the smallest of fish species.
All aquatic food chains or webs begin with the sun, as in any trophic system. Phytoplankton, and vegetation can take energy from the sun, bringing it into the system. These are usually eaten by zooplankton, insects, and mollusks. These organisms are typically eaten by fish, larger insects, birds, and mammals. The of course all these organisms have predators at some stage in their lives.
One aspect of the aquatic food system is that there are lots of what are commonly referred to as Allocthonous inputs. These are sources of food not inthe aquatic system origninally. Example, a beetle lands on the surface of the water, a bird falls out of its nest into the water. Even a raccoon feeding on crayfish, or toads returning to the water to breed, there are many imports and exports of energy....these are very general examples, and there are thousands if not millions more!
I hope this gives you some information, you should look through some ecology textbooks, or even just look up food webs or food chains on the internet.
