If you're not British, who do you admire from British history?
Shakespeare?
Isaac Newton?
Diana, Princess of Wales?
Isambard Kingdom Brunel?
or someone else?
This question comes courtesy of BBC History Magazine. I'd love your opinions.

Just to clarify:
All nominations welcome are welcome.
Isaac Newton - scientist who first explained what Gravity was and proposed the universal laws of motion. He was the man Einstein admired.
Isambard Kingdom Brunel - Victorian engineer extraordinaire. He pushed engineering forward during the 19th century whether it be bridges or ships. He built them big and to last.

As a British Expat, I can tell you it will be
Churchill
Thatcher
Diana
as far as the world general public go.
In that order.
And I agree (if it's only in living memory).
Remember most are not educated in English history, they will have never heard of Brunel, and may not know Shakespeare/Newton/Darwin was English.
They will rely on their own experience.
Thatcher may have stayed too long, but she turned the UK around; and everyone in the world knows it.
Whilst Diana was a very sympathetic figure, if you were not bombarded by tabloid lies every day of the year.

I know he isn't history yet, but i admire Felix Dennis. He is preserving the beautiful countryside of this great country by buying hundreds of acres of land to keep as greenbelt land. He may have had a shady past, but he will definitely make his mark for the future. Well done to him.

For some strange reason, a lot of them (especially Americans) seem to admire Mrs Thatcher (although she's not quite history yet).

Churchill, If there were more leaders like him today, you can bet that islamo-facism would REALLY have a hard time existing. He recognised when there was a danger to his people and stomped on it with both feet. He did try to coddle and appease or make excuses for evil.
