Who invented it?

And why?

I'd like to know this because I'm currently looking for work - and I'm sick and tired of filling in so many long, detailed and sometimes positively intrusive forms.

This application form was for efficient Adam who searching for Eve followed her along those footstep marks. And as he filled in all her footsteps with his, he eventually found her - he got his job back. It was mighty hard work but he did it - lovingly, respectfully and with care. This was the first instance where a job application very properly and neatly filled and job situation secured by efficient Adam - granted by beautiful Eve.

You had to fill in a form to join the Roman Legion. (It was on a thin piece of wood and designed mainly to check that you could read and write). The ancient Chinese were great on bureaucracy, as well as inventing paper, and I wouldn't be surprised if they got there first.

The reason job applications are now so complicated is that employers have to be able to prove that they are not discriminating on the grounds of race, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, religion or (coming next week) age. If they ask enough impertinent questions, they should be able to find something to justify taking on that nice married white protestant lad.

Job applications were invented by cave men. The first job application was discovered in a cave in france. It was a series of drawings of a man with an axe in his head.
