You've forgotten the heatwave already? I think it's your mood. And you shouldn't have changed your avatar; you look scary now.

I believe England receives a lot of rain because it is in a sense a very large island. I live in San Diego and for some odd reason it tends to rain quite a bit. But the rain comes and goes, but it leaves the atmosphere to be just like in spring, fresh and inviting.

If England is anything like San Diego (well, I guess minus the constant sun), I wouldn't count summer out yet. Keep those flip flops handy for that shiny day when the clouds leave and I am sure a very warm and bright England will greet you to venture out and conquer the day.

It does't always rain in England we just had to much sun of late but the garden will improve with some rain so try to be happy or you could leave England and live in the Desert. I guess you may have to pack the flip flops.

don't pack away those flip flops just yet !

Summer is very variable here , so it is winter this week ,but still with the promise of some lovely days coming up .

You will know it is winter when the hose-pipe ban is lifted .

When sunbathing in England , always keep your rain gear handy !

;o)

It doesn't always rain! You just remember the bad weather and not the good - and even if it wasn't raining, we'd be complaining it was too hot!

Not so long ago, this country was enjoying temperatures in the high 90s and low 100s ... maybe only briefly ... so how short is your memory?

Like you though, I'm not enjoying the present spell of unsettled weather, but I'm looking forward to an "Indian Summer" in September - keep your fingers crossed!

I will answer the question in relation to the UK. (If you want real rain go to western Scotland)

The prevailing wind in the UK is from the south west.

The water in the Atlantic is in the south west of the UK is warmed by the gulf stream.

The air moving over the warm sea picks up moisture from the seas surface.

When the air gets to the UK it is lifted by the land, cooled by the altitude and releases it's moisture as rain.

Two other factors are also at play:

1. Low pressure systems from equatorial Atlantic tend to head up the Atlantic and across the UK, usually just to the North. Low pressure systems mix warm wet and cold air masses - causing rain.

2. The air over Europe tends to be at a different temperature to the air over the Atlantic (During the winter Atlantic Air is warmer than continental air). When the two mix (usually over the UK) rain results.

Statistically the UK receives more rainfall in the Summer than any other season.

Relatively warm moist air from the Atlantic moving across cold water moving from the polar region is cooled and the water vapor condenses on hygroscopic nuclei suspended in the atmosphere. When this air is further cooled by orthographic lifting upon reaching Great Britain, it rains like hell.

Why doesn't it rain in Texas? LOL!

Probably depends on the climate change.
