I first realized i had sunburn about 6 hours after i had been outside for a few hours. even when the sunburned part of my skin was pink & wrinkled, it was still itchy so i couldn`t help buh scratch it. so its been a couple weeks since then & its STILL peeling.. but now the part that was burned is white while the rest of my skin is darker i guess from the tan!.. but how long will it take before the discoloration goes away?!? is this normal?!?

It is normal, but you have been badly burned! Most people will not experience the level of burn which you have suffered, where the skin does not gradually pigment (tan) but instead just sloughs off as quickly as possible.

The tanned area has had time to turn brown, not being so badly exposed, but will eventually recycle, as all skin cells do. It may take until winter time for the patchiness to disappear.

I have seen people's shoulders blister and even cracked and bleeding from sunburn. I myself had such bad sunburn to my face last year after all day at an athletics meeting that I woke to feel clear plasma seeping from my forehead. My face peeled like a cornflake for two days and I was left paler than ever -no suntan!

Scar tissue is not identical to the tissue which it replaces and is usually of inferior functional quality. For example, scars in the skin are less resistant to ultraviolet radiation, and sweat glands and hair follicles do not grow back within true scar tissue.

The thing to look out for is anything that might be a skin cancer. See the links for diagnosis -basically, big growing freckles.

Treat the skin with vitamin E cream to prevent permanent scarring. There is also a suggestion that cocoa butter cream can be used to help heal scars, and to prevent the formation of "keloid" scars.

Above all, use sunscreen next time!

Hopefully, it's not a scar, but skin without a tan. Dude, don't expose yourself to sun so much - this is a road to skin cancer.

It is possible to have a scar from sunburn. Scar is something that doesn't go away when all the rest of your tan is gone. Whether or not it's "normal" - well, it's not good for you, but it will heal up. No, you don't want to be getting those on a regular basis.

Until you're body balances your old tan and you're normal tan out, with the formation of new skin cells.
Unfortunately this can take up to a month.
Be patient and just keep using sunscreen.
