You don't need to drink 8 glasses of water a day. You certainly don't need 1/2 your body weight (in oz.) per day. You don't need ANY arbitrary target amount per day.
Drink when you're thirsty. Period! Don't live your life trying to accomplish something that has no scientific validity and is just an old wives' tale!!

Legend says 8 each of 8 ounces of water per day is the minimum. If you are in the US Army, and stationed in the desert where the temperature is over 90 degrees you shall drink 1 measured quart of water PER HOUR.

Just wanted to add... You may be too young to care about this right now, but, drinking that 8 cups a day will keep you from aging so fast!

newest findings suggest one should drink 1 liter water per 20 kg body weight. if you weigh 60 kg, you should drink 3 liter water per day.

please ignore the guy who told that too much water is no good. that is not true. proper body functions (kidneys, for example) require proper hydration.

as a rule of thumb: you should drink so much as to never get thirsty. to be thirsty itself show's a lack of hydration, like the engine display in your car. when it flashes something is wrong.
(people compare thirst with the gasoline display in the car, indicating fuel is getting low and should be refilled somewhen. but that is not the case; when you're thirsty, your body definetively complains about a lack of fluid.

the more h2o you drink, the less you will have to worry about hydration, especially on hot days. enjoy the summer while it lasts. (PS: water helps prevent the thickening of blood and such other problems)
