Well, the Bible would have a lot of 'splainin' to do. So much for the "chosen ones."

Technically, the universe is infinite and constantly expanding, due to the force from the Big Bang. it is almost certain that there will be another planet containing life. By mathematical standards, if there is an infinite number of planets, there will be a world exactly like earth, with people exactly like humans, typing on Yahoo Answers about intelligent life on other planets right now.
About how humans will react, there will probably be a lot of media hype, and for once all the money spent on humanitarian or war purposes will be channeled to space "outreach" pro-grammes. Rich men would pay billions to go to the planet, and probably world leaders would pay them a visit. However, if we do not have the technology to visit the faraway planets yet, then we would still spend billions on researching communication technology.
Also, all lunatics will smile and say "I told you so"

Well, with the prospect of having life existing on other planets, I believe that humanity will once again be spurred to into the space race. Especially if the life found was more advanced in technology. Its like the law of two opposite sides, when one side is obviously stronger than the other, the weaker would and should match or overcome the other side. It almost plays out well with the opposite and equal reaction Newtonian law.
Anyways, the prompt urge to "battle for the stars" will create and economic market that will eventually bring and end to major world conflicts in favor of diverting energies towards space travel.
Discovering life would ultimately alter human cognition. Just like when the large ships built to cross the harsh ocean, forever will man be searching to explore this new territory. All the ancient fantasies of "the old west" and the new world will usher in a new era where the "American Dream" would be an even more universal way of thinking across the globe.
The discovery of life on other planets will revolutionize our world thinking in such a positive manner that I firmly believe that when we find life on other worlds, Earth will be one people united in a single quest to fulfill man's great destiny.

We (scientists and as time passes, other mortals) know that there is a very high probability of life on at least other planets (there must be about 100000000000000000000000 planets in the universe!), and why should they all be less intelligent than us?
So as time goes by we would be less surprised of finding them.
The surprise to scientists would be actually establishing contact with them or even detecting their weak signals because we are probably so very impossibly (inconmprehensibly) far from all those forms.

If the Roswell incident or any of the other reputed incidents involving aliens actually happen then the government would cover it up and the scientists would try to learn as much as possible about them. If you look back in history people thought that Earth was the center of the universe and everything revolved around it. Although this information has changed due to scientific endevor, the superiority behind the thinking has not.
Myself? I believe that there is something out there. We cant be the only ones...I hope.

I believe they have already encountered other life forms but are unwilling to admit it.... As far as how we would react, well, I am sure we would all be a little scared and excited..... some people may even decide that the world is going to end and the would go into their bombshelters........ however, I think its pretty egotistical for (those) people who think the only life in the universe is that found on earth, COME ON!!! how many species of life are there on our planet? and they really dont think just ONE might exist without our knowledge outside of our little planet?

The same way we react to everything else, differently. I would hope it would unite us more as a species knowing that there was another intelligent species out there. And if we find just one, that would mean there are a lot! If we don't get our act together and resolve our differences one of those other races will do it for us. How would our governments react though...that's the question...

what do u think? the usual yada yada..."oh my gosh, that cannot be true, perhaps the scientists are messing around with us again!" then they will stress and be concerned about invasion, or whatever other stupid things humans concern themselves about, instead of actually embracing the fact of unknown life newly found. personally, i believe that there is life on the other planets, and i am so eager for us to discover such! (i'm a scientist in the making=))!

First of all POPE's Business should go bankrumpsy. We should be able to see in Vatican's front yard to have a big bazzar to sale crosses, statues, in very cheap prices before they lose their value at all.
People infront of walls to bang their heads against the wall, because they blaim theirselves as idiots, because they beleived in Priest's bullsh** stories and fairytails.
FINALLY.......PEACE ON EARTH.
No religious hate anymore, no matter where it was coming from, in the past ... finally people found their senses. Muslims? well, they won't have big change. They never had or have contact with reality. They will still live in their world. Have you seen in Star Trek series any arab? The series has cast from all around the world exept arabs. The reason? All the episods are refering to the future.
AMEN.....:)

Why must scientists be the ones to find it? G-men would only put a lid on the findings. but there would be denial until proved.
I can honestly say that- why look on other planets when the others are here. whats your reaction?

I don't think it would affect our lives much. There would be a lot of hoopla in the media in the beginning, just like after 9/11. But after a month or so, the realization would start to sink in that there's no way in hell that we'll ever be able to communicate with them, because of the vast distances.
