Something priceless is of such enormous value to someone that no price could be named that would get that someone to sell it.
If a price of millions of pounds is gained for a painted picture previously considered priceless, one may ask why the purchaser had so much money to waste.

It means it's to expensive to even put a price on, or is not for sale.
The Mona Lisa is priceless, she'll never be up for sale.
The Statue of Liberty, despite being able to calculate the price of the steel and labour, has a sentimental value to Americans, that cant be replaced. She's priceless.

'Priceless' means that there is not a figure that could buy 'priceless' item.
There is intrinsic value...ie,if its a diamond and ruby encrusted platinum brooch studded with pearls and mounted with 24 carat gold, you can break down the 'value' of the components and give each one a 'price', but due to history, age or provenance, altogether this is what makes something priceless and there is no way to determine a price for them, so they are classed as 'priceless'

Break down the word. Price means what something costs. The suffix less means without. Thus priceless means without cost or more appropriately without price. It is not free it is unattainable by money.

You could say that something priceless is also something you can't live without... say for instance, air.
How much does air cost... nothing, because it's priceless and it's something you can't live without....
By the way, I decide what's priceless...
And no, just because it's priceless, doesn't neccessarily mean it's free (like Faberge Eggs, for example).

Priceless means you can't express it in money. But there could be other prices you have to pay....time, love, affection, emotion, something that is dear to you.
But it very much depends on what it is.

I think if something is priceless, it can mean it has undefined value; consequently, it can be worth absolutely nothing or can be so valued that there is no known quantification of cost.

It is all in the eye of the beholder what has great value to some may mean nothing to others. Like your mom for example to you she has no value i hope but to a stranger 100,000 may do her in just a example

priceless means that it's more valuable than money. of course, someone then buys it, for a large, but finite, sum of money. "society" decides what is priceless. it's all a bit silly.
