Oh that's an easy one... picture a late 60's mercury comet with a 3 speed on the column wrapped around a tree as I tried to shift gears while making a left hand turn. The long walk home wasn't nearly as bad as facing my father at age 14 after wrecking his "work car". I say he got the best of the deal, he then drove his Lincoln TownCar to work.....he didn't agree with my logic.

The day I learned to drive a stick my lesson was great, but a few hours later, I learned that my then boyfriend left out one extremely important instruction hours later. I HAD to drive the stick... everyone had taken all my family's automatics and my Dad had bought the stick as a 4th car for us. So, I drove the stick to my evening class at the University. I parked in the faaaaaaar area, you know, the one right next to the exit on that big commuter campus so I didn't have to threaten the lives of all the innocent students. (I'd been driving a manual for at least 7 years by then) So, when class lets out, I RUN to the end of the parking lot to beat all the stop and go exiting traffic. Well.... HOW to reverse this thing!!? I had to wait 90 minutes for the person parked in front of me so I could finally drive the 9 minutes home! NOBODY TAUGHT ME HOW TO REVERSE. That was a sad, sad day. A dark day. Yep, now I can laugh. "Ha! Ha!" THAT was embarrassing.

Similar story to Sleek. Had been driving three on the tree sticks before I bought a 64 Beetle. I was fine until I parked and had to back up. This being my first floor shift car, I had no idea where reverse was. No owners manual came with the car and no pattern on the shifter ball. Took 15-20 minutes to find reverse so I could leave.

I kept stalling out a 79' Camaro and these kids asked me if the car had Hydraulics because it kept bouncing up and down everytime it stalled.

Tried pulling off in neutral. Apparently it doesn't work too well.
