ok , i have just got my dvd burner installed by a computer TECHNICIAN. it opens and closes but it doesnt appear in my computer. wat do i need to install for it to work ? the instructions say nothing on how to install it . ive downloaded the firmware but still no change. i dont know about the jumpers and wires so no use tellin me that stuff.

ive got 3 drives in there now . a dvd rom , cd rw . and a dvd rw

If this is the only drive you have the jumper should be set to primary and connected with the middle of the IDE cable.If you have 2 drive you must set 1 as primary and the other as secondary by changing the jumpers and again the middle of IDE cable to the primary drive and the edge to the secondary.(on your drive there are instraction for how put the jumper to set your drive as primary or secondary).

Get read of the cd rw or put it to an external box for drives

When you put in the the DVD burner did you take out a cd drive, if so look at the back of it & you will see a very little platic thing where the wires go - this is called a jumper - note where this is - then take the jumper off & put it on your DVD burner is the same place

Take the side off your tower and check to see that the ide cable is plugged in

Your Windows should have recognized it as new hardware and ask you about installing it on boot up, if all connections are tight.

you only need one now the burner-will do everything i think your technician is ripping you off
