I keep having this one dream numerous times -

I'm in my old high School (i've now left and have moved on to further education) and I try and go up the stairs to get something - or go to some room up there - for some reason I think it's the library or the PC lounge

As I'm making my way up, I'm holding, clutching onto the banister - almost as if for my life. I then look over the left hand side of the banister and notice how high it is (it isn't actually that high but I get a sudden wave of fear over me)

Then I try to contniue up the stairs but when I look below at the steps, some are hanging off or completely missing and I continue anyway - only to put my foot on the loose step and fall through. Then I wake up -
Anyone know what this means?

It sounds as though you are going thru some sort of trials in your life, an effort to better yourself. The place you've come from seems so far away and is something that, even though you don't actually fear it, you don't want to go back to being/living.
Having the steps fall away from beneath you would seem to indicate that you feel your current path is one that is hard to maintain OR one that you are not entirely sure is the direction you need to take. Stop for a while. Evaluate what it is that you want. Try to see all the positive an negative aspects of your goal and how you are attempting to achieve them.

Neil B Has it right. Nobody can interpret dreams. Books written on the subject are the authors interpretation. My feeling is that dreams are caused by bits left over from the brains recycle bin. Like in a computer when you have deleted the programme you sometimes have to go and delete its icon from the desktop afterwards. The icon is the dream, and it can sometimes be a few days before it's erased. The icon is a tiny fragment of something you may have forgotten in your wakened state, but comes out through your subconscious when you are asleep. That is my theory on recurring dreams.

Dreams are a sleeping code your brain sends you. If it is important enough for you to remember then there's something you are trying to tell yourself.

Going forward or up usually means moving forward in time. But you are back in your past, moving forward...

Is there something in your past that you fear? Something that relates to high school? Do you feel unprepared for your current level of education?

It sounds like self-doubt.

Usually you will be able to figure out the meaning of your own dreams better than anyone else. Just get a pencil out and write about it to yourself. After all, it is symbolism that your own mind is sending yourself, so you yourself are the key to the dream.

If it is very frightening, you could try lucid dreaming techniques to make the dream less frightening. Just remind yourself that it is just a dream. I know it is weird, but it works. You might even find yourself in control of the dream.

Read this section on overcoming nightmares from this Lucid Dreaming site. It says to confront your fear in your dream, and then the fear will go away.

The old Highschool represents your past, ever since, you have been climbing for something more( the stairs), fear that you might fail holds to you( the fear you have climbing up) and the end result you do fail. The only way to prevent this from happening is to let go of that fear that holds you back, only then can you move on.

Interpret Your Dreams on this site all the meanings without having to look them up never mind the...Title...of the web-site. http://www.freakydreams.com/ because Good Dreams also can be Interpreted.
Dreaming is a place of possibility and creation, a land of futures that might come and pasts that never were. It is also a land of nightmares.
It constantly changes as people fall asleep and shape parts of it, then wake up and their dreams dissolve back into mist. A dreams dictionary always helps ( for other descriptions needed ). http://myjellybean.com/dream/pagey.html
Did you know you can make yourself dream anything its called...Lucid Dreaming which this site will explains along with some other questions about dreaming. http://www.dreams.ca/

It's fairly obvious that this dream represents you're graduating from elementary education and now going on to higher learning.

Looking back is the desire to not leave all behind, some steps still intact.

You are afraid of failure but willing to continue on anyway.

Don't be though, college is daunting at first but learn what you love and love what you learn.

this means you are trying to achieve something in your education field and you currently have fears that you will fail

you see your old school - which shows it is educatiion related fear, you cling on to the banister because you want to go upwards and you feel the steps below you are dissapearing - kind of signifies that deep inside you really fear loosing / failing whatever it is that you are trying to achieve

good luck :)

A classic 'fear of failure' message, just like any dream which incorporates a difficulty in ascending whether through flight or other means. You know what you're capable of in life, but there is always self doubt. Believe in yourself. Once you've succeeded you'll realise the only real hurdle that ever actually existed was your own fear of failure. You CAN do it.

Well the library and the computer lounge are usually places of study in school, but voluntary study, sort of like a college education is voluntary. It sounds like you either feel forced into a path of education that you don't want or you don't feel confident you will succeded in the chosen path but also feel like there is no turning back.

To attempt to as send in a dream is knowing you have a certain type of improvement to of your self worth that you're still attempting to start & or complete.

The broken / missing steps are the path of the past that is gone forever.
