I think the real problem is defining "a right cause." It is hard if not impossible to get a consensus on what a right cause is. For example, during the American Revolution the Patriots justified violence against the British as fighting for "a right cause." I doubt if the British agreed. Osama bin Laden justifies violence against Americans as being for "a right cause." Most Americans I think disagree.

I'm not sure about this one. I'm definitely anti - violence in any form and for any reason, but think of WW2, and the Nazis. Wasn't the violence used in self defence, and to aid others in their self defence justified? For example, would you have joined the Resistance in France and used violence to help drive the invaders out of your country? I wonder....

For defence and proportionately is OK.
Those who suggest that violence is never justified should think about this: if some aggressive person or persons break into your house and you have children, or a wife or fragile elderly parents living there and these intruders are intent on, or likely to, attack them, do you say, "Oh, do come in and attack us, do rape and pillage and steal and torture. Please do this to us, because we are better people than you, and we won't hurt you at all."

If someone breaks into your house and threatens you or your family, then I feel violence is justified. If you are protecting yourself or someone else, then it should be, but you cannot use to excessive violence to protect yourself.
