suppose the nature of the product is a mobile phone? Would text advertising be more effective than flash (which may be interactive)

Text can or cannot be read by search engines depending on how the ad is deployed. If the text ad is hard coded on a page, then it can be read by the search engine. But if the text ad is served through Javascript such as using PhPadsnew ad server, then it cannot be read by search engines.

Flash advertising can be many things -- and how it is deployed can affect the resulting click through rate. Is it a banner or a box? The bigger, the better.

The advantage of text ad, though, is that it can be made to look like content. There's less banner ad blindness, unlike graphic ads no matter how fancy they look with flash. People have learned to ignore banners. And if integrated with content or at least made to look like it is part of content and not ads, there's a greater chance of getting clicked on.

In my website, text ads can generate as much as 10% clickthrough while flash banners can at most get 0.85% click through.

If I were to advertise, I'd definitely use text ad -- and bonus even if the implementation is through hard coding so it can count as my backlink for search engine purposes.

Try thinking about this from this angle - text can be seen and read by the Search Engines. Flash (or other graphics) is aimed at humans.

Humans are buying the products but generally they are using the Search Engines to find the products. A combination of techniques is required for best effect.

Hi, perhaps you can try Google adwords to market your service/product.

Google adwords is a text-based system for advertising on its site and its partner sites. The service allows you to create your own ads, choose keywords to help match your ads to your audience, and control the cost of your advertising—you pay only when people click on your ad (a cost per click plan). Anyone wishing to promote a product on Google can enroll in this program.

you can get a 5 detail pages information about Google adwords at :

Text - but used as editorial. Banner advertising, particularly on sites which are not your own have a particularly poor ROI
