Those of us that have lived for many years and have been lucky enough to keep our health physically and mentally do have many stories to tell the young. It is not easy to get the young to listen though. I remember when I was in my early years and how I thought about the old people. Little by little the young do learn from us old ones. I just wish I had some really exciting stories to tell any person no matter their age. If you are young please take the time to get to know some of us fogies and start a conversation. Yes you will not always get good results but even a few would be worth it.

One of our purposes is to entertain ourselves and each other. If Peter preseted his life story in an entertaining presentation, many people (not just youth) will find it enjoyable and educational.
Retired people could reach out to young people with the intention of giving something back or for teaching purposes or for helping them to prevent from "making the same mistakes." This intention might provide some sense of direction, but the ego of that person may strangle that direction into an obsession.
Retired people could reach out to young people with the intention of being entertaining to others, having a great time with them, and allow the youth to feed off and thereby boost the positive energy of the retired person. This interdependant relationship is mutually beneficial, but the ego of either participant may strangle that belonging into a possessiveness.
Retired people are no less, and no more human than youth, or those in their prime, or a newborn, or an invalid. What makes a person destructive of life is the carrying of the emotional pathogen called "terror." The contagious disease of intense fear gives rise to concepts like right and wrong, should and should not. it is a vice that spreads through the mind, then the body, then the soul. It also spreads from person to person, and even to non-human life forms.
It can be stopped, it can be cured, it can be prevented, and it can be eradicated, but at what cost? If we didn't know fear, how could we appreciate moments without fear, like trust and faith?
I trust that retired people will begin to reach out to young people, and I have faith more and more young people will listen and respect the accumulated wisdom of retired people, and I know that things will change as a result. I accept that Utopia can never exist, but pray that we can avert from the self destructive path we walk toward armageddon. And most of all I have forseen a bright and beautiful future for the planet Earth. People like John Lennon, Jesus and Mohammad knew this aswell, and knew that the fastest way to fall was through terrorist acts like war.
NO FEAR!

Older people have a more realistic view of history then a history book because a history book can write what ever they want and if there is no one to say other wise that is what people think, that's why so many people believe that Columbus discovered America. older people were there and they know what rally happened, of course it will be their version, but all history is somebody's version of what happened.
A combination of listening to people's stories and reading books is required to really understand history.
